Good Ending runs seem to be faster, and economically better, than the True Ending. Double monk in Stages 5 and 6 were possible after getting the Ninja in daibutsu. This could easily go below 18 if I didn't pick up the extra food in Stage 5.

Fortune-telling on two fronts, with great luck.
Then you can join Tanuki in the last stage.
Also, if you do fortune-telling with a miko in the lead, you can get a definite great luck.
They don't stand about, but here's a reference.
