This guide is how to perform the Ewan Skip during Mission 4: Amazon Escape (aka the Recruit Ewan mission). This trick skips about 5 minutes of auto-scrolling segment where you ride in the gunner seat of the helicopter and keep it safe. This trick is REQUIRED for No Helo runs, as riding in the helicopter during this segment counts towards the "Distance Traveled" stat for that helicopter.
General Information
This trick is performed by blowing up the vehicle Ewan is riding in while in the yellow circle around his downed helicopter. The three main requirements for this to work are:
- The vehicle must be within the yellow circle.
- Ewan must still be in the vehicle when it is destroyed.
- If you blow up Ewan's downed helicopter while doing this, you will fail the contract.
How to do while in a Helicopter (useful for Any%)
First, take the time while Ewan is running toward you at the start of the contract by damaging the helicopter as much as possible with guns/grenades. Ideally you want it as close to 20 HP as possible.
After damaging the helicopter, get in it with Ewan and head towards his downed helicopter. When you arrive, simply crash into the ground within the circle. For added insurance, shoot a rocket at the ground as you crash into it to get the explosion damage as well as collision damage.
How to do while in a ground vehicle (required for No Helo)
Bring the car of choice to Ewan and have him get in by honking. Exit the vehicle while keeping your passengers inside by pressing R1. Do not press Triangle to exit the vehicle, or Ewan will get out as well.
Switch to C4 and throw it on the car, then get back in. Drive to the circle where Ewan's downed helicopter is sitting.
Keeping the car moving at a relatively high speed as you approach the circle, press R1 to bail out of the car while it is moving, keeping Ewan inside. Make sure you do not aim the car at the downed helicopter when bailing out, as the C4 can destroy it if the explosion is too close.
Note: Ewan WILL get out if you exit by pressing Triangle, or if the vehicle he is in stops while in the yellow circle. Make sure it is moving at a decent speed and that you use R1 to jump out.
As soon as the still moving car containing Ewan is in the yellow circle, activate the C4 detonator to blow it up.
