## RNG Viewer (Chicago)

**Function:** Visualize the frames that correlate to the best rng for the first course of any%, Chicago, aimed to help learn visual or audio queues.

**Support:** Bizhawk 2.9.1 or later. (Confirmed to not work on versions 2.5 and below, using the newest update a available is advisable).

**About the game’s rng:** The rng refers to the porcentage at which the police will show in Chicago. Getting caught and activating the money underflow glitch is the most desirable outcome in the any% category and as such it’s desirable that the police appears as soon as possible. 

Rng is determined during: 

1. First transition frame coming from the tittle screen into the character selection screen (Frame when B is pressed).
2. The fadeout frame from the selection screen(89 frames after selecting one character)
3. And finally, the time between the map fade-in and the "start" to enter the track. This last variable is the least relevant, with an extremely low impact on the final result. For example, you need to stay on the map screen long enough for 4 frame address overflows (i.e. 1020 frames, 17 seconds) to have an increase of 0.8% in your final %. Therefore, this last variable is not taken into account in the tool in question.

From the 10 possible percebtages ranges, RNG Viewer was designed to locate 4 ranges:

- **9%**
- The range of **10%~~12%** (named  11%)
- The range of **13%~~14%** (named 13%)
- And the range of **19%~~20%** (named 19%)

**How to use:** Open the game, load the LUA script and soft reset. Be sure of having the lua script located in a folder Bizhawk has writting access as a **data.txt** file will be created as part of the script, to help manipulate variables.

**Labels (at the top left corner):** 

- "RNG Desejado" shows your current range of searche (9% to 19%). Changeable by pressing L/R. 
- Frame 1: Frame you pressed B at the tittle screen (frozen for reference).
- Staying too much time in the tittle screen as such as having the demo play may cause additional numbers to appear, which are of no relevance.

If trying to learn an audio queue, mashing B before the tittle screen is ideal as RNG is cleared before getting to the tittle screen (but not the music)

The screen will blink:

- Blue for 9%,
- Yellow 11%, 
- Red 13%, 
- Green 19%.

If the frames are hit correctly the same color will blink again after the character selection. If there is no blinking: the target frame was not hit. It’s not possible to change the target frame after the tittle screen. 

Once the transition is done the map will load and your RNG % will be shown.

Throughout most of testing the most common RNG results were the ones in the ranges provided.

If there’s ever need for diferença ranges to be targetable they can be added if requested.
