How to Submit Your Run:

Download and Play Grapplania, available on steam for Windows and Macintosh Systems.

steam link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2459460/Grapplania/

You can also download the game on itch.io as well as the DigiPen Game Gallery exclusively for Windows.

itch.io: https://digipen.itch.io/grapplania

DigiPen game gallery link: https://games.digipen.edu/games/grapplania

Record a video/livestream playing the game and upload it to an online streaming platform of choice (youtube, twitch, vimeo etc…). You must provide a link to your video that can be viewed by moderators when submitted. Having your face be visible on screen is not required, but is permitted so long as it does not obstruct view of your gameplay footage.

Once you have your recording go to speedrun.com/grapplania. Select your category of choice and click Submit Run, then fill out all the required content on the submission page.

You must specify your category(All Gems or Any%), input your Player Name, specify which level your run is meant for(Full Game, Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3), your in-game time, the platform your game was played on (PC or Mac), the date your run was made, and a video link to your run. A description of your run is also allowed but not required.

Cash will only be awarded to first place winners of any given category(see Overview Section above for specific cash prize pools). Contests in 2nd, 3rd etc… by the contest’s end date of August 28th(end of day) will not receive any prize money.

Video Requirements:

Game audio must be clearly audible, this is true for both the music and sound effects.

Minimal fps dropping is understandable, but large amounts of fps drop or "freezing" may call the run into question as splices are more easily hidden.

Timers are not required on screen to submit a run. For the time being, the built in In-game timer (IGT) will be used as your run time. In the future, runs with competing times may need to be timed by the moderator(s). Raw footage of the runs may be requested for such purposes.

Rules for Full Game and Individual Level Runs:

For the All Gems category, players must collect every gem within a level before completing it.

For the Any% category, players can beat the level as fast as possible regardless of the amount of gems they may/may not have.

For Full Game runs, players must play all 3 main levels without restarting from the in game pause menu. You must start full runs from the main menu.

For Individual Level runs, players may start by clicking the restart level button from either the pause menu or level completion screen.

You are not allowed to submit Individual Level runs for the full run category, however you are allowed to submit segments from your Full Game run for Individual Level runs so long as you submit a video link that only includes footage from the specified level.

Policy on Glitches and Tech Discoveries:

Runs that use glitches are allowed but must be verified by moderators. We want to encourage players making discoveries to improve their runs. However, due to the limited amount of play testing results available as of writing, any major glitches discovered may require rule changes in the future. For now these discoveries will be verified on a case by case basis. Players that discover new glitches and tech may be asked how they were able to perform them, if their explanation is valid and verifiable their runs will be approved. If you find a glitch, please reach out to the moderator(s) and rules can be modified and categories may be added.

Run Verification Process:

Runs will be reviewed by megaZXnoah(Primary Moderator) and Luciansrule(Secondary Moderator). Runs will be reviewed based on the criteria listed above. If a run submission meets the criteria it will be verified. If a run submission does not meet the criteria or a mistake was made during the submission process, submissions will be denied and contestants will be asked to address any issues specified by the moderator(s) before resubmitting. If contestants address the issues listed by the moderator(s) the run will be eligible for review and then verification, so long as no other issues are discovered.

Moderators have the authority to remove runs even after verification if an issue with the run is found after the fact. In the event, the moderator(s) will contact the contestant to see if the issue can be resolved and the run re-verified.

Please allow up to 1-3 business days for runs to be reviewed once submitted. Our goal is to review and verify runs on the same day or the following, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Runs submitted before the end date(August 28th) of the contest will be reviewed and are eligible for verification even after the end date of the contest. However, all runs submitted after the end date of the contest can still be verified for the leaderboard but will not be eligible to receive prize money. Please allow for up to two weeks after the end date of the contest for contest winners to be announced.

How Payment will be Verified and Distributed:

Once the contest winners have been announced user’s will be contacted by Noah Taublieb (the primary moderator and contest organizer) regarding payment, the amount of which will correspond to the categories in which the contestant(s) have won. The organizer will reach out to contestants via contact information available on their speedrun.com profile to ensure that the wining contestant is being contacted directly. Having email, twitter, discord or other forms of social media/contact information available on your speedrun.com profile is HIGHLY encouraged.

You can contact Noah Taublieb directly over email at noahcoopertaublieb@gmail.com.

Note that contestants who make contact or are contacted outside of speedrun.com will need to verify that they are the owner of the associated speedrun.com profile.

If no contact information is available on a contestant’s speed run profile, the primary moderator will leave a message in the comment section of their contest winning run. If winning contestants can’t be reached, fail to respond to messages left by moderator(s), and fail to properly verify their speed run profile within one month of announcing the contest winners, then no prize money will be paid to those contestants.

By default, payment to the winners will be submitted digitally via Venmo and/or Paypal(preference of contestant winner). Payments will be handled by Noah Taublieb, the primary moderator and organizer of the contest.

Venmo Username: Noah-Taublieb

Paypal Username: Noah Taublieb

If contestant winners don’t have access to either forms of payment distribution please contact the email listed above and alternative solutions can be discussed.

Side Note: At the start of the contest certain categories on the Grapplania Speedrun leaderboard are lead by megaZXnoah, this is the tag of the primary moderator. These runs are here for the purposes of having placeholder runs for contestants to work towards. Both moderators, megaZXnoah and Luciansrule, will not submit any additional runs during dates of the contest, but if the times set by megaZXnoah and/or Luciansrule are not surpassed before the end date(August 28th) of the contest the prize money associated with those categories will not be awarded to anyone. Note that the contest ends AFTER August 28th, meaning players can submit runs on the 28th will applicable for prize money, and any run submitted from August 29th onward will not qualify for prize money.
