Upcoming GOISE Tournament

We'll be hosting a GOISE tournament inspired by real-life climbing competitions! It will contain 3 disciplines:

  1. Speed. Separated in 2 sections:

Qualifiers: Everyone gets 3 no-reset runs. The rankings are determined using the best time of the 3. The number of participants that go to eliminations is the nearest smaller power of 2 (e.g. if we are 10 players, 8 make it through).

Eliminations: The player ranked 1st in qualifiers races against the one ranked last, the 2nd against the 2nd-to-last, etc. For all people who lost in a given elimination round, their time determines their ranking, but the round in whic they lost has more importance (e.g. even if you lost in quarter-finals but had a faster time than someone who lost in semis, you'll be ranked worse). All elimination rounds will consist of one race, no-reset, except the final, for which the first to 2 wins takes victory.

  1. Challenge. There will be 4 maps of varying difficulties and styles that no competitors have played. We only get 5 minutes per map. The rankings for this category will be determined by whoever beats the most maps. As a tiebreaker, one smiley face will be placed somewhere in each map, so that if multiple people beat the same number of maps, whoever has collected more smiley faces is ranked best. The next tiebreaker is the total amount of time you took to beat all the maps (the ones you did beat) + the total amount of time you took to collect all the smiley faces for which you didn't end up beating the map.

  2. Endurance. One infinite but unforgiving map will test if you can consistently do pretty difficult jumps. Lava will rise as you go up, so missing any jump once, waiting, or hesitating will result in an almost certain elimination. The rankings are determined by the highest PLAYER Y reached before falling.

You'll have to be well-rounded, as the sum of your points from all 3 disciplines will be your final result. You can gain up to 100 points per discpline, based on this formula: #points = [100((1-√r)/(√p-1) + 1)], where r is your ranking and p is the number of participants. Don't worry about this xD Basically it's a smooth curve where the 1st gets 100 points and the last gets 0. If you want to see the graph, paste this into Desmos graphing calculator and add a slider for p: y=100(\frac{(1-\sqrt{x})}{(\sqrt{p}-1)}+1)

The tournament date is yet to be determined. Please let us know if you are interested in competing! Players of any skill level can join :)

(thanks @KlimbRio for writing most of this)
