Speed increased with emulation/platform?

One of two currently submitted 100% speedruns is on Amiga with emulator, and the video description states

To get more speed for the Goblins you can hold the left mouse button, this also speed up all the animations like for the zombie

Is that a feature of Amiga or the emulator? Should there be a different category for sped-up runs like this one?

I know for a fact that in DOSBox you get the same effect by holding the left mouse button - you can speed the game up as much as you want depending on DOSBox configuration. Not sure about other emulators.

Also, should there be different categories for CD/Floppy versions of the game? On floppy, the "storyline screens" don't have a narrator voice and go by a lot faster.

Hi SBerT, sorry for the late response, I don't have notifications on here. My run usues ScummVM which has no speed settings. A quick test showed no significant difference between holding LMB and not holding it. I think splitting boards only makes sense when a lot of people are running, or when someone wants to specifically run mutliple different versions. We have 2 runners. Nothing prevents me from getting an Amiga emulator and doing the run there myself to level the playing field. If you insist on running on Dosbox, please use the default speed setting, unless that is significantly different from the ScummVM speed, in which case I will mandate a specific dosbox setting that is comparable. On RTZ, the entire board had to be erased and rerun because of Dosbox configurations. (see here: https://www.speedrun.com/rtz/news/kyxyrz3n ) and I'd like to avoid that. You can run whatever you want to run of course, and if it differs enough, I'm happy to start a discussion with you and MilkToast on splitting the boards. But also, if you want to run some meme "overdrive" category where you set the dosbox settings to full speeds, be my guest, happy to make boards for that too.

I have been running the game using ScummVM and have found that if I continually left click at various frequencies it appears to speed up the game. I don't know if this is the case on the original game or is an emulator issue. I've been using the floppy version due to cutscenes being shorter.

Very nice, proper speedtech discovery!

Hi,

speeding up the game is to my knowledge a feature in the Amiga version which can be utilized. I dont think it has something to do with the emulator speed (at least in my current settings). About splitting up the LB: Personaly I dont care! In general I have the same opinion as Darkshoxx that we should split it up when more runners appear. For now it looks fine to me.
