I recently added the first variable to the game KARDS ("Ally Nation") and went back updating the values for all old runs. This made the leaderboard appear blank by default, as the default variable value ("-") was being used as a filter on there, and almost no runs use that variable outside of a single category (it is still useful to have). It would be interesting to be able to set the default variable filter separately from the default variable value, as that is currently used as the filter. For example, I'd like the setting "Filter variables as 'Any' by default".
