If games are inactive for a very long period of time and never get run, is there any chance that SRC staff would remove it from the site? Probably a dumb question and one I'm sure has been asked before.
The only time I’ve heard of boards getting removed is when somebody requests a new game but doesn’t bother setting up any categories.
Boards are auto removed after 14 days I believe if there is no action taken to set them up after they are added. If someone sets up a board but never uploads a run, then there’s really nothing that can be done because there’s very little information on WHY there are no runs (maybe the run was deleted by the runner). So it’s hard to say if there was any activity before.
But no, the site would never ever delete and established board just because it’s been inactive for a period of time. That wouldn’t even make sense at all, you couldn’t just wipe away an entire community just because nobody has submitted a run in a while.
I agree with @Timmiluvs on this one. Even in the case that a game hasn't had any new runs for a long period of time, no matter how long the period, they still serve a purpose, which is to keep a record of all speedruns that've been done for the game up until that point. If you erase those leaderboards, those games effectively go back to square one, and a new runner would be none the wiser and might think noone has run them before, which would be false.
Besides, if leaderboards start getting erased for inactivity, other currently active games would just start fearing for the future of their records and more likely than not would shift to other, more permanent alternatives, so this would actually hurt the site more than it would help.
