Hey all, wonderful site here, just registered.

But I found a couple discrepancies in the game engine list (well.. actually a lot). Some items in there are not game engines at all, and some seem a bit redundant (but that's up for debate).

For example, theres "Flash" and "Adobe Flash" which pretty much mean the same thing, both ActionScript 2 and 3 are not game engines but are programming languages used by Flash. Android, Blender, C++, C#, HTML5, Lua and Java are not game engines. There's GldSrc, which is an abbreviation of GoldSrc. "bullet" and Box2D are physics engines. Then there's just "Mario".

I'm sure I missed a couple hundred (jk), but I just found this a bit concerning, that's all.

I know, but shouldn't that be moderated, like how StackExchange can merge different tags together if they are too similar?

have you seen the genre list? ppl don't exactly check for accuracy of what they input... It bothers me as well, but unless you wanna put like the workload of the century onto the content-mods there's nothing we can do atm.

Site staff having an easy way to merge Genres, Engines, Developers and Publishers (those are all the write-in fields) would be useful, but having to keep track of and maintain all those things manually would still be quite a bit of work for our fairly small team of volunteer staff that already have a lot of other (much more important) responsibilities.

Genres and Engines aren't really that useful as sorting criteria anyway (genre definitions are subjective and often quite arbitrary, and most people don't have any reason to care about engines) so I don't think it's a big deal. Developers and publishers being cleaner would be nice, but even in its current state those are still mostly usable.

Instead of writing the genre, engine, etc. ourselves; why not have a list of available titles, like how you do it when you select your country, name color. Sorry, I'm not really good at explaining. But did you get what I mean? @Liv
