A couple of questions

I’ve been wondering a few things related to ownership of a game and the nature of the games I made. A bit of info: I’ve made a few text adventures that I (and possibly some other people-I haven’t really shared the game around yet) would like to run. Because I intended the game to have a lot of freedom, I haven’t made an automated response program. I (or another in-game mod) respond instead. So here are the questions: Are the owners of games allowed to run or request games? Would this game be accepted? How long of a category would I need to submit a run of to get the game accepted? If you need more info ask me, here or on the game (it’s Discord-based) at https://discord.gg/RzRDA3y .

"Are the owners of games allowed to run or request games?"

Yes. There's no reason why a developer of a video game wouldn't be allowed to speedrun their own game, or request/moderate the game page for it on here. I can't think of any specific cases of this, but I know it's happened before.

"Would this game be accepted?"

Assuming I understand your games correctly, then I would say no. They're not really video games, they're more like tabletop RPG's in an old-school text-adventure format. I'm not exactly sure how speedruns for them would work in the first place, but in any case, on the game request page it says that "non-video game activities" won't be accepted.

Thanks! I was thinking of using in-game time (because RTA would be very off) but I wasn’t exactly sure what some of the things that aren’t being accepted meant. Guess I’ll have to have an unofficial leaderboard then.

"Are the owners of games allowed to run or request games?"

  • You can certainly run games you create and submit runs to the site. Generally we don't like adding "I made this game in my free time and I'm here to make a community for my obscure game"

"Would this game be accepted?"

  • We generally don't add text adventures, chat bot games, and things of this nature. 1980s popular text-based games would generally be accepted.

"How long of a category would I need to submit a run of to get the game accepted?"

  • Not really applicable, but if random web based games are under 5 minutes, we're typically not a huge fan.

It's relatively subjective.
