i kinda wish that i would have had to moderate something "funny" all that i have rejected were just people not reading rules or not knowing that no vid no did and couple people did only one lap out of three in a racing game time trial
I had someone submit a run to Flappy Golf of him scrolling through the menu, showing that he completed every level. He explained in the description that it took him five years, so he put the maximum allowable time (999h). I rejected because the video didn’t actually show any gameplay.
One of the first things I did when I became a Minecraft Bedrock Edition run was edit the rules to make it super duper clear that you are NOT allowed to use commands.
Then some people discovered a bug where you could use commands with cheats off.
For the next 4 months half of our 200-300 run queue was nothing but people using commands. This always led to us rejecting them, and the runners getting offended because "I'm not using commands bro it's a glitch"
There was also this which was amazing
Someone submitted a fake Geometry Dash speedrun by just speeding up the footage, and when confronted, said it was their little brother.
But did this someone played with a USB steering wheel with a blindfold on? Otherwise it doesn't count.
A few particularly epic examples:
- someone submitted my PB with the game cut out and placed in a different overlay, and they paused the timer at random intervals such that the final time ended up being WR by about a minute
- someone straight up uploading someone else's PB onto their own YouTube account and submitting it, and a top 10 run at that
- someone submitted someone else's run with the link being their actual PB vid that they just hadn't gotten around to submitting yet, on their own account
- multiple cases of people submitting completely different games: a dark souls run submitted to Celeste, a minecraft lets play submitted as the vod for a simpsons hit and run speedrun
- and of course at least 3 rick-rolls
Probably guy submitting a "10 second" run with no video in a category where the WR is over 7 minutes Or possibly the guy who had a blatant splice less than 30 seconds into the run
@Lieutenant_Boo that reminds me of a few scenarios in a few games that I don't moderate, but saw screenshots of
Some guy submitted a 59 second no video run to the Mario Kart 7 Leaderboards, the world record is 1 hour and 18 minutes
Some guy submitted several no video world records to the SM64 category extensions (and got banned from the site)
Some guy submitted a 1:00:35 any% run to the smo leaderboards that was a reupload of an obsolete run from another top runner. They got rejected, and then a bit later on the SAME DAY, they reuploaded the SAME RUN, AGAIN and submitted it.
Someone submitted a run that they claimed was theirs. The run was the exact same video as one of the top speedrunners in that game. They submitted it multiple times after I rejected it, still claiming it was theirs. They had a different YouTube channel linked, and I knew the runner that they tried to copy. After I told them that, they deleted their account and gave me no response.
Some fool, who never had a run in the game, decided to submit a 0:00.001 run with the video link "speedrun.com"
Some guy submitted a 59 second no video run to the Mario Kart 7 Leaderboards, the world record is 1 hour and 18 minutes
Was it NOBUO?? Did he have the Japanese trigger finger??
Well I used to moderate a Monopoly game and someone sent a rickroll submission in, but the most unique case I think is that time when one runner submitted very obviously tool-assisted runs to the Plants vs. Zombies Mobile board, for example they used a mod that gave them infinite sun so they could beat certain ILs in less than 20 seconds. For their Any% run however despite having infinite resources they played extremely poorly and didn't even submit the correct time. What was weird to me was the runner had posted a couple of legitimate runs in the past and at one point held the WR for the Mobile Any% category for a short time.
That runner eventually got banned from the site and we removed all their runs. However they proceeded to curse out me and a couple of other runners in the comment sections of our videos. About a week (I think) later though a new runner came in and submitted a couple of ILs, we could very easily tell that it was the same person from the way they typed but their run looked legitimate so we verified it. We haven't heard from them since however and that was about a year ago.
New contender. Guy who submitted, not the link to his video, but the file path to the video on his computer.
