You can request to claim the original username by contacting support: support@speedrun.com It's only possible if the user is highly inactive and have 0 runs, like in your case.

Not really, you can just change the username in your setting in this case like I did. There is no need to contact staff about it

Yes, I don’t think it used to be this way before, but now if you try to change your username to one that’s already taken, the system will allow it as long as that account meets the guidelines that solderq mentioned.
