Fixing Leaderboards

I am a moderator for Wipeout: The Game (https://www.speedrun.com/wipeoutthegame) and the community opted to ban emulator until I or WipeoutJack7 fixed the leaderboard. So, how do I separate the emulator and wii/wiiu without deleting all the runs on the leaderboard? (I tested out leaderboard fixing on Calvin Tucker's Redneck Jamboree [https://www.speedrun.com/calvin_tuckers_rj/full_game#Any] and it deleted my run.)

If you add subcategories to a category without any, all the existing runs are no longer visible as they have no subcategory attached. They still exist however and can be found on the user's profile page.

@JXjunk As Randomno said, setting a new subcategory will make runs without it disappear from the leaderboard (although they are still exist). The trick is to set a new variable and apply it to all runs first, then turn it into a subcategory.

So, you can create a new variable of platform or emulator (even though there are built-in ones), set the non-emulator value as default, and then on the variable options choose "Set the default for all runs without a value". After that you can set this variable as a subcategory for all the full game categories, and then remove (or leave) the default option from the value.

Then you will have all runs under "non-emulator" subcategory. Move manually through all the emulator runs in your leaderboard, and then set their new variable as "emulator", and they will move to the other subcategory.

I think I am working around a similar issue. I'm a mod for Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and we were wondering if there was a way to have the Xbox/PS2 (default console) be the page but also easily view the all the levels for the 360 (not default console) on the individual levels page, something that gets more draw in this game than full runs:

https://www.speedrun.com/bf2mc/individual_levels

The 360 version is a remake; they added some vehicles, new textures and other things that would make times faster than the other consoles, reason enough to separate them. But, the way it is set up, the 360 level leader boards are effectively hidden. It would be great if there was a button on the View All Levels page (link above) had a button or something to switch between the two games. Any ideas?

A switch like that would only be possible if all categories have the same sub-categories, it could still be implemented but would potentially be very confusing for users depending on the leaderboard configuration. In your case of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat you only have 3 Categories so there would be enough horizontal space to split it into separate categories for PS2 and XBOX. Any% (PS2), Any% (XBOX), ... That might make it look a little cramped but at least every run is visible.

Thank you for the feedback. That's what I was originally thinking, which would create 6 columns:

Any% // 10 Stars // No Swap // Any % 360 // 10 Stars 360 // No Swap 360

My original thought is that this is a viable solution despite the page looking like a massive excel page. Are there any other game to your knowledge that run with 4-6 columns? I wouldn't want to do anything that would deviate precedent set by the majority of games on the site.

I'd say that the predominant solution is to separate large categories (i.e., Any%) into subcategories by platform. See Super Mario 64 for just one example. This halves the amount of categories you display.

The problem that @TW33N_SW4G is talking is about IL leaderboards. They have subcategories, but only the default subcategory is displayed in the general ILs review page. While you can theoretically split the platform subcategory into regular categories (360 and not 360), I wouldn't recommend it. As they said, with 6 columns the page will look like an excel page, but will also be harder to manage. If for example you add a new category, you will have to add two categories instead. If for example you add a new platform, you will have to duplicate all exist categories again.

I think people have suggested some improvements for the IL review page in the feedback thread. For your question, there are games around with 6+ columns, like this: https://www.speedrun.com/rogue1/individual_levels At this point the table hit the max-width and starts to have a horizontal scroll.

Thanks for the feedback from both of you, I'll post over in the feedback thread and see if it gains any traction. I appreciate the input =)
