HD Converter / Capture Card Issues

An early hello and thank you to anyone who finds their selves here.

I recently decided to start making videos of my gaming content and speedruns and purchased the necessary equipment in the process, as I'm not too clued up on computers I thought it would be best to buy high quality items straight off rather than learn the ropes and upgrade (although the quality of my items have all been based on online research)

Firstly, I bought an Avermedia Bolt which would not work when I discovered what a Thunderbolt USB actually was, then I bought a Razer Blade gaming laptop to support the Thunderbolt adapter and all was okay when recording PS5, Switch and Super NT.

My issues have started when trying to record PS2, Recording is possible but when the PS2 dips between loading screens (Eg - Between the transition between pressing "Start Game" and the game actually beginning, the loading screen appears but then dips out with a "No Signal" alert on the screen and a red light flashing on the capture card until the game eventually regains signal and the game screen returns).

Firstly I used a cheap PS2 / HDMI adapter that I bought of Ebay, so figured that might be the issue, next I bought a higher quality Kaico HDMI adapter which had the same problem, then I bought a PS2 Slimline as I'd read that older models may not support the adapters but this didn't work, finally I bought a Kaico OSSC and an RGB scart cable from Retro Gaming Cables and as of today am having the same issue.

Any help with this would be much appreciated as I've exhausted all options and don't want to continue buying all these different pieces of kit in case it turns out to be an easy fix.

I searched the internet looking for solutions and found a similar thread from Speedrun.Com so thought this may be a good place to get some tips.

Many thank in advance to all who respond!

Hi there! it seems like the problem is not with the cables you bought. Have you tried using another PC with the same procedure as what you did on the Razer Blade gaming laptop?

If it works on another PC, the problem might be on your Razer Blade HDMI port. You can check this link for a detailed troubleshooting guide. --- https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1944/~/the-hdmi-port-on-my-razer-blade-is-unidentified-or-not-responding

That's what I used when I had the same problem. :D

Sadly no, my capture card works from a Thunderbolt USB and I don't have any other PC which supports it. I've tried plugging the HDMI adapter straight into the TV and there it seems to have the same issue, but on occasions where I've messed with the settings of the capture card I have been able to get it to work perfectly for several minutes before reverting back to the original issue. For some reason, the capture card glows a slow, pulsing red when this works perfectly, then back to blue (meaning full signal) and from that point back to the original problem where it glows a fast pulsing red with the "no signal" notice.

I'll check out the website you recommended though if you think it will help. Many thanks!

Can you still return the capture card? I would go that route and buy a different one that isnt using thunderbolt.

@Matse007 - Sadly no, I've had it way too long. My research showed that it's one of the best capture cards on the market so I'd imagine there is a way to get it working perfectly. For what ever reason it's just the PS2 so far that's given me problems, I'll have to give it another good looking at some time soon.

If I remember correctly an issue I had was (it’s been a few years)

the loading screens, cut screens on the ps2 are often a different resolution to the game play, hence the screen goes black as your upscaler is trying to rescale the signal its receiving your getting a black screen as it’s trying to work it out.

The ossc upscalers are really good and there are loads of guides on you tube for the correct settings, as the scaler can be locked to continually output the same resolution. I’m sure eposvox (or similar) did a very detailed video on it.

Personally I bought a backwards comparable ps3 with hdmi out. (But that can bring other issues)

I'm experiencing issues with video capture in OBS, particularly with audio. I was able to get Bandicam working with the audio, but I'm limited to 10 minutes.
