I want to causally speedrun some games that I have until I find one that I would really like but livesplit doesn't open. The first time I downloaded livesplit it worked but after I closed it, it never opened. I tried redownloading it, I tried many ways I thought I could fix it, I looked online for 30 mins for solutions, some of them being on Reddit and Speedrun.com and nothing worked. If you think you might know a way to help me with this issue please tell me it so I can hopefully use live split for timing and splits instead of a stopwatch.
When you try to open it shows an error or something? Also the first time to open it what changes did you made on it, its possible something not working properly it might crash the whole program.
Try open it again then look on your process manager if its there then something with the setting is wrong, if it's not there then it means the program crashed.
When ever I try to open it there is no error and nothing pops up in process manager. I think the way that I first downloaded It was I extracted the ZIP file and then put LiveSplit.exe on my desktop then I put the folder with everything else for livesplit in, which made it open. Something critical I forgot to mention in my thread is that I am not able to do the same thing I first did to get it open because of to problems. Whenever I extract the ZIP file it is still a ZIP file which I don't think happened when it first worked and in the video I watched which is the same one I watched when it first worked. The other problem is when I try to drag it to my desktop it doesn't work because it says "this destination already has a file named LiveSplit.exe" but there is no LiveSplit.exe on my desktop. The only thing I did when I first opened it was create splits for Getting Over It by following the video.
This is the livesplit video:
Now you have a Ghost file i suppose? Since your explorer doesn't lets you have the .exe file this means the file is on your desktop but is Not exist, also your explorer sees it so you can get rid of it by using System Restore but because is risky and you can lost files, i strongly suggest asking a professional before doing that. Extracting a file is like copying the file to selected location, So you have A Zip file and a Normal folder after the extracting.
I can finally open livesplit!!! It turns out I'm stupid because I was not properly extracting the ZIP file! The invisible LiveSplit.exe still exists and I was able to right click it and press "Delete" but it comes back.
Thanks a lot Parasxos and SioN. Without you guys I don't think I would know what to do and would have the motivation to continue trying.
(Also if you are wondering, yes I closed livesplit and reopened it to see if it would work, which it did)
