Hello, I've been thinking about speedrunning some games for fun, and read the side bar, faqs etc. https://tweakbox.mobi/ Most of my speedrunning would be done on NES. I have emulators, the original console, and the switch. https://vlc.onl I preferably would use my NES, but it seems like I would need a capture card for that, is that correct? I'm guessing I can't just videotape myself with my phone or something like that playing for the submission rules? https://getappvalley.com/ In addition some games have very specific start and stops, like one reads "game ends on the first downbeat of the music". I know there's tools such as livesplit, would this automatically end the game, etc? Would livesplit work with a console or do you need an emulator for it?
1: Yes, you can just videotape your run using your phone most of the time, unless the rules specifically tell you not to.
2: Autosplitters only work on pc games and emulators, if you're running on console, you have to split manually.
Note that mods will retime your run from the video, so you don’t necessarily have to worry about your own timing being exact.
