I run a few games where I honestly don't have the illusion I'll get WR or even close to that, and I'm not pursuing it either. But I'd like to get "decent" times at these games. In one of these, I'm about 15 minutes from a time I'd consider decent, and in the other game, I'm around 1h20m from a time I'd consider at least acceptable.
The problem is I can't find a way to know what I'm doing wrong and the tutorials generally give very advanced techiniques that I don't feel capable of doing. I'm not about to go after top runners asking because I don't want to bother anyone with that. But I also feel very dissatisfied with my current times. What do I do?
I would recommend asking the top runners anyway. Or at least make a post in that game’s forum. Who knows, maybe they’ll be happy to help?
Set smaller, incremental goals for yourself. Getting a WR, or even getting close to WR level can be very daunting as a new runner. Focus on improving your time and you'll naturally get better at the games you play.
customize the run to your skill level.
if there is a trick you cant pull off.. cut it out of the run and dont even think about it. you can always add the trick later once you get better
look at my chip and dale run.. its a perfect example. in the "normal" speedruns people damage boost by turning backwards right as they take damage. however i am not good or consistent at that yet.. so i literally just dont do it. and i still made leader board.
if i feel like working on my time i'll practice damage boosting and my time will improve. or i may just be happy with my time at my skill level. either way i am happy :)
