Could Fortnite be a speedrunnable game? I'm talking about like custom maps ands stuff. Like obstacle courses. I see no reason why not, because Roblox has a bunch of random maps like "Who killed peter griffin" and stuff. Fortnite could open up a lot of opportunities like roblox.
But aren't games like overwatch and smash brothers and mortal kombat player vs player? I'm not asking for the battle royale part, I'm asking for the creative maps to speedrun, like in roblox (which has almost 250 "games" in it)
That makes sense I guess
But still, a new obby or roblox map is added basically every other week to speedrun.com from what I can tell. Wouldn't the speedrun.com mods wanna check that out?
Isn't that sorta spamming? I feel like 95% of games in the roblox series would be rejected by a site mod because of being "short/trivial"
This issue has been discussed extensively by runners before in the forums, one thread (which I can't find for some reason) had a similar request about Among Us and it led onto Fortnite. Effectively the problems with ROBLOX games being added is a specific aside issue, reformatting has taken place since then that makes requests and additions much more strict.
I suppose, as a side note for general clarification on the terms of PvP in games, Mortal Kombat and Smash have leaderboards thanks to having alternate modes available, specifically ones that are PvE. While the base games are designed for PvP, they have defined arcade modes and story modes that do not involve other players, or only do so in a co-operative manner. Overwatch lacks that, so no run could even be considered- TF2 has Mann Vs. Machine, which is pure PvE, so it can have a valid set of speedruns.
(World of Warcraft somehow does as well, but the objectives are PvE in nature. They've probably got some ruling for handling outside influences.)
The thing being with this stuff, is that it's always a question of how mechanically consistent it is, and PvP isn't consistent. Your enemies will never be the same, which means there's just no consistent baseline to measure a run by.
But that's just an aside. As for the main discussion, custom maps and such, @RaggedDan is right on the mark with it. The site rules are different these days, and in general, it seems player-made stuff is harder to get onto the site than it was before. Most of what's on the site now seems to be stuff from before the change and is simply kept so to not cause a giant mess.
Feel free to correct me if anything here is wrong.
Roblox series used to have no quality control, as it was thought to not be needed when it was first an issue. Now, we have a team (me on that team) that goes through every submittion and tests them to see if they should really be added. The majority of games added nowadays are actually respected games within the community. the bad games are not the majority, for sure. it's just the negative spotlight that shines over those specifically
