Hi! I've never completed a speedrun, or even attempted to do so - I feel it is quite a daunting task. I have, however, wanted to do something, and at least attempt to be a part of the community.
My thoughts were to do something uncommon, but something I'm familiar with. I noticed we don't yet have a game for Snooker 19, a sports game out on all sorts of consoles and Steam. I have seen the instructions on how to add such a game, but I wanted to check how the playthrough video works.
My thoughts would be that as with a lot of games, there's a lot of ways to speed through a game like this. Such as FIFA 21 has Volta% and Goal%, I would expect MaximumBreak%. Would I simply upload a run of such, or does it need to be a full playthrough the game?
I also had some questions on footage - does everything need to be streamed, or is general video suitable? Should I use the PlayStation share feature on that platform, or does this need to go into PC and stream from there?
Sorry for all the clearly newbie questions!
Any form of video is okay for runs, even something like pointing a phone camera at a screen. I'd highly recommend uploading your runs to youtube. In order for a run streamed on twitch or another platform to be retimed, the video would have to be downloaded. Youtube runs are easier to verify, because they can be frame advanced and retimed without downloading.
Currently, games won't be accepted onto the site if you don't have a full playthrough of the game. I'd recommend reading all of the game request rules here.
And don't feel sorry about asking "newbie" questions, everyone here was new once. :)
I am also brand new and pretty much had all the same questions that Lee has asked...so thanks for asking Lee! :)
I think i am going to attempt an old Dreamcast classic, so im glad to hear that pointing a phone at a screen is an option, as i dont have any fancy tech!
Completing the game. If the game has an ending, get the ending. If the game has several levels for you to play, beating all the levels, etc. If you submit a speedrun of a single level or just the tutorial, it probably won't be acccepted.
And again, don't be sorry about asking questions.
Thanks! So, there are different types of match, which would make for a decent run, I think. Probably not the most elegant, but I'll put something together and see how we go.
