Boat Skip

Boat Skip is the exploit in level 14 "Boat", where we use the rockets on the patrol boat to blow up Crowe's helicopter while it is still parked in the crater, hidden away. 

This trick ONLY works on the following setups:

* Windows 10, Steam or GOG version

The skip does NOT work on the following setups:

* Windows 11/8/7 (and presumably all other Windows versions)
* Windows 10, Uplay version

Game versions and settings

It doesn't matter which version you run (Steam/GOG/Retail), as far as we know there are no differences between them.
UPDATE: it was found that UPlay version has broken boat skip which looses around 4-5 minutes, so please avoid that if you plan on doing runs. It was also noted that windows 7 has same problems, so either use windows xp which was the target os for this game or windows 10.

"Machine Spec" - setting to be found in main options window ingame.

This one affects some of the game physics, we advise to set it to either high or very high otherwise you may experience problems with "solid barricade bridge" on river and "swamp autoscroller bug" where val can randomly 'forget' the path she should follow.

"Environment" in advanced graphic setting.

This one is responsible for amount of objects that spawn in game, including enemies. We advise setting it to low, so that no barricades in Swamp and Dam levels spawn. It also removes couple of patrol boats in Boat level and some barrels and boxes here and there.

(this setting affects sys_skipOnLowSpec variable (low = 1), you can check what game objects despawn when sys_skipOnLowSpec is 1 in level editor)

Maxfps

The command \g_maxfps allows you to change the maxfps in-game.

How do you use this command?
Open the console by pressing the ` key, and then type \g_maxfps 100
Default value of \g_maxfps is 500.
If you have a stone age pc and have no more than 200+ fps, then this command is not going to do anything useful.

Why lower your fps?
Because this is an old game and the framerate affects a bit of the physics and movement. (not like in Fallout 76 where you can move 5 times faster because of higher framerate) but some jumps and ledge proning can be done faster with lower fps. In other words, you can do some skips faster with the \g_maxfps on 100. Also the new Volcano skip where you need to get stuck on the elevator is much more consistent with g_maxfps 100than on regular fps. (Almost impossible on very high FPS)
All the skips are normally possible on normal FPS, only on lower FPS some become much easier and much more consistent.

IMPORTANT NOTE 1

\g_maxfps is a console command. In the rules it says no console commands. This means you cannot use this command mid-run. If you want to change it, change it before you start the run. Changing mid-run will invalidate the run. You need to change it once per session (untill you close the game). So everytime you startup the game, you need to change it.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2

I know the command says \g_maxfps 100 but in-game you will get fps higher then 100 (between 100-190), this is correct.
The command doesn't cap at exactly 100. (yeah, stupid right?)

Why 100? 
Well, setting the command to 100 (so actually between 100-190 fps) is low enough to have an effect yet high enough to not notice that much stuttering. You can set the maxfps to whatever like 50 or 200 for example, but in our experience 100 is the best.

Rebinding skip cutscene keys

There is a file in your root game directory called: "Game.cfg", which contains all the key bindings.
Open it with notepad, scroll down to the very bottom of the file, there are two bindings there that look something like this:

Input:BindCommandToKey("//skipsCutscene", "spacebar");

Change the keys to whatever you want (your forward key is the recommended choice).
The game overwrites this file every time you close the game, and it will be bringing back default values. To avoid that you need to make the game.cfg read-only.
(ofc every in-game key binding change won't be saved then)

If you accidentally press CAPS LOCK, cutscene skipping with "w" won't work so it is also recommended to add "W" as a skipCutscene key as well.
