Sega vs Playstation ?

Hi,

After i've tested Exhumed on Sega Saturn, I'm surprised to see the game is different on some point.

No save on the Saturn version, loading screen, some lag, so the run can be totally different. So I think, it can be interresting to see if we make a Saturn% or we ban the Saturn :)

Thanks

Nah, won't ban Saturn. You can still speedrun it. I've just put separate tabs for it under misc, enjoy. :)

Nice !! Thanks Tumek5, other question for the PC version is it possible to create a Exhumed EX version ? It's a modified version of Powerslave with better graphism and no lock camera :)

Well, Exhumed EX is fanmade, plus it's inaccessible at the moment, so I don't know. Plus if people want to play the official/original PC version, Powerslave, a separate page should be made. I know it's mainly me being used to calling the PS version Exhumed, but I think it's fine if the PC version of the game had a page named Powerslave. They are very different from each other, anyway.

Hi,

Each version of Powerslave/Exhumed/Seireki 1999: Pharaoh No Fukkatsu is completely different.

The Saturn version was released first. It does save, it just does it automatically every time you exit a level.

The Playstation version is a port of the Saturn version, and a LOT of things are different. For starters it was programmed by a different person, and that means plenty of differences, whether they are intentional or not. I won't go into details but even things like player or enemy movement are different. The biggest differences is that 2 levels are completely different, 2 others are 50% different, and there are small level design differences in every other level.

I'm not sure what you mean by "some lag". From my experience, the PS1 NTSC-U version lagged a lot more than the Saturn versions (try bringing up the automap in the PS1 version for instance...); but the Saturn PAL version lagged less than the NTSC-U Saturn version. Then again, I only played the NTSC-U version on emulator while I played the PAL version on a real system. Perhaps the PAL PS1 version lags less than the NTSC-U Saturn version. I would say that the PS1 version is easier than the Saturn version for many reasons, the first one being that you can carry a lot more ammo in the PS1 version and that ammo/hp drops seem a lot more likely to spawn.

Also, a lot of tricks are possible in the Saturn version which are not present in the PS1 version. This includes bomb jumping (rocket jumping with the grenade like bombs), but not only. My 25min speedrun should be up soon and it shows bomb jumping as well as 2 other tricks which afaik are not possible in the PS1 version.

It is worth noting that there are also many regional differences in a same version. I won't go into details unless someone asks but for instance the PAL Saturn version has some level design differences, different timing for almost everything even though the movement speed of player and enemies is the same, and two new glitches. Then, in the Jap Saturn version you can carry more ammo for the Amun Bomb and the Cobra Staff and there are probably other differences too.

Finally there is the PC version. I mean the real PC version, not "EX". The PC version was released in between the Saturn and PS1 versions and uses the Build engine (Duke Nukem 3D, etc). It is a COMPLETELY different game using the same assets. It is a very underrated game if you ask me, even more so than the console versions, and it does have speedrunning potential. As for EX, I wouldn't recommend it. It is a port of the PS1 version to PC, however ALL the behaviours, from player movement to weapons and enemies behaviours, are completely off or outright broken. Don't play that.
