Like, when do you end the split and move to the next item? is it once you finish the recipe, or once you open the next recipe? please help

You can make hotkeys such as the spacebar in the settings when you right click on Livesplit.

You can choose when to split. I do it when the word "finished" appears after each recipe, which while I am not sure I believe is what is most common.
