Ancient Stone Tablets has a bunch of patches for the ROMs which change a variety of things. This guide is used to reference what patches are and are not allowed in runs.

To get the patches, refer to this site: http://bszelda.zeldalegends.net/bszelda.shtml

Patch guide will follow this template:

Patch Name: Week Affected: Status: Why:

Let's begin

Patch Name: Base Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It's needed for the map, items and music to all work correctly

Patch Name: Indoor Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It's needed for indoor places to display correctly

Patch Name: Upgrade Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It fixes issues tied to the game keep track of which item upgrades you have which was a part of the original Satellaview release

Patch Name: English Translation Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It's just a translation. The text is slower than Japanese so keep that in mind

Patch Name: Subtitles Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It adds the hourly subtitles to the bottom of the screen. The original game had voice acting that would go along with you as you played and since the voice actors can't commentate while you're playing, the subtitles were added.

Patch Name: Intro Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: Fixes the game's intro and doesn't affect anything else

Patch Name: Mascot Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It's only a cosmetic change

Patch Name: Item Fix Week Affected: All Status: Banned Why: The patch allows you to keep the shovel in week 4 which is fine but it also adds in two items that aren't meant to be in game. The patch allows you to get the Magic Cape and the Book of Mudora which both exist on the ROMs but go unused.

Patch Name: Timeless Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It only hides the clock. Despite being called the timeless patch, time based events still occur but you just can't see the clock.

Patch Name: Stronger Boss Patch Week Affected: All Status: Banned Why: Why would you want to make them stronger?

Patch Name: Maple Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: Only cosmetic

Patch Name: Aginah Patch Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It just gives him his original robe color

Patch Name: Pot Smashing Patch Week Affected: All Status: Banned Why: It adds the ability to dash through pots which isn't a normal thing

Patch Name: 1/4 Magic Week Affected: All Status: Banned Why: It allows you to get an unused Magic Meter upgrade which was not intended

Patch Name: Hurricane Spin Week Affected: All Status: Banned Why: You weren't supposed to be able to get this attack

Patch Name: Sword Grab Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: All it does is allow the sword to grab items. In case a heart or whatever gets stuck in a wall

Patch Name: Warp Cancel Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It just lets you back out of the warp map

Patch Name: Bug Fixes Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: It fixes some missing animations and allows bosses to be affected by the Level 3 sword. On said bosses, using the sword is slower anyway

Patch Name: Master Quest Week Affected: All Status: Maybe? Why: The patch basically makes the game harder and changes some stuff. MQ may become it's own category if there is interest

Patch Name: No BGM Week Affected: All Status: Allowed Why: Removes the BGM. That's it

Patch Name: Debug Patch Week Affected: All Status: Banned Why: Obvious reasons

If you wish to not bother with the patches, the site listed above does allow you to download pre-patched ROMs. You can either get the translated ROMs with a few patches, or the Japanese ROMs with only the title fix and indoor fix patches. To find these links, just look for the hyperlinks labeled "Official Week" for English and "Japanese version" for Japanese.
