Current Patch Runs

Runs on the current patch, in my opinion, would be much more interesting to run, route, and watch, as they would add diversity to the run not only in rng but also in playstyle and skill. Where as runs on older patches both require 3rd party software (patcher) and are much less diverse and, in my opinion, are much less interesting to run, watch, and route for, since the routes are generally the same unless a new skip or glitch is found.

I believe if current patch runs where done as well as older patch runs it could be very good for the community as a whole. I am in no way suggesting to remove old runs because they are boring to me but, instead imploring the runners of this game to give current patch runs a chance, and for the moderators to open up categories for those run, as it would encourage people to actually run it.

TL;DR: Old patch run are both less diverse and less interesting, imo, and current patch runs could be more fun to watch, run, and route. Don't remove old runs, but do new runs on current patch

Thank You

I would break ground in this current patch category but, I cannot because I am leaving to join the military very soon, also I'm admittedly not interested in speed running myself but, really do enjoy watching you guys do your thing, have fun running and debating

The only thing stopping current patch runs is that nobody is doing them. If you want them to be a thing, try finding some friends interested in doing them. Also since you seem to dislike glitches, it's worth noting that current patch still has infinite ammo, infinite crit damage, infinite shield recharging, superspeed, and a ton of out of bounds skips. Maybe what you want would be better defined as glitchless/no oob.

No I'm fine with glitches, i just disagree with the practice of down patching to make things that would otherwise be impossible possible, and really think runs, especially solo runs, are really uninteresting when the only point of conflict is how long will it take me to get a quad and a vladoff rocket launcher.

You have a pretty severe misunderstanding of the game if you think it is more RNG than skill.

I believe the run as it stands requires more knowledge than legitimate skill, grenade jumps are probably one of the more difficult things to do in the run, imo, but I've never actually run it, just played casually ever since it was released. RNG is also not a huge factor almost at all in current runs, which is one of my complaints.

Infinite ammo and crit on current patch are only a thing in co-op. With those you need to get a white rarity launcher of a specific brand, a decent shotgun, and some snipers of any kind. Removing this will make it insanely RNG dependant to the point where nobody would want to run it. Say you get a Lyuda or a Fastball in a vendor. Useless with good glitches, but remove those and suddenly you're 10x more powerful than you could have ever hoped to be with regular weapons.

That's where I disagree with you. In other games(paper Mario) there are parts of the run were you just lose due to rng, but those game still has a hefty speedrun community. If I had the time or the passion i would run these categories because I truly love borderlands and think it would be fun to route the game around, maybe farming certain things like doing in memoriam, just because getting a fastball is so useful in allowing you to be underleveled but still kill big enemies. I think this would add a new dynamic and make the game less dull for those runners and viewers who are tired of not even aiming after lvl 10.

This is just my opinion though, feel free to disagree

Not aiming is a problem with Gaige, not anything else. Maybe you would find runs of other characters more enjoyable to watch.

@T_Nap, you don't need to use a 3rd party software to downpatch if you have the old patch files.

Paper Mario is a game from 2000 which is very hard/expensive to get your hands on. So, in terms of "making the impossible possible" you're being a hypocrite, Borderlands is waaaaaaaaay more accessible.

Nothing is stopping anyone to do a different kind of run. The funniest thing is that guys like you come from time to time out of nowhere criticizing other runs without having done any of your "legit fun" runs.

I do enjoy watching the axton pov of co op runs, but even so outside of co op all of the characters runs just seem to be the same, because builds don't actually matter, unless you're playing zero or gaige, imo, it's just the same thing every run , no diversity what so ever. I feel like I have more to say, but I can't think of it. Moral of the story is if you run the game I think current patch runs would be fun for the whole family, even if theyre harder or longer, give em a try

Nobody is scared of current patch runs being "harder or longer". The fact of the matter is that they just aren't fun. You said yourself you're not a speedrunner and you have no interest in becoming one, and yet you still feel the need to come in here and tell us how to enjoy our hobby. I have tried current patch runs and so have other people, they just have nothing about them to make them preferable to the more active runs.

@pentaleks That comparison between paper Mario and borderlands makes no sense, I wasnt talking about the accessiblity of the game I was talking about playing the game in a way that is not representative of what you would be playing if you just picked it up at the store, though much faster and in a different way.

Also I've gone through the main story enough in 6 years to know that itd be more fun to do and more interesting to watch if there where some sort of diversity between runs, between characters, between runners sorry if I upset you I'm just trying to have a conversation

@seanpr that's exactly what I was looking for, if I ever have a chance after I get out of basic I would love to run with you guys, as I really do love speedrunning and playing the game, just have been to lazy to actually get up to the task of doing it. Thank you for having a discussion

Nobody is going to run current patch, at least not more than a single run. You're the only who can help your cause and I still can't see the point of creating this thread. Either way, you're welcome.
