The above colored legends will be used in this guide in the format [X >> Y] to denote horseback movement across the map. Returning to the Stables [A] should always be done with the phone menu, not manually. Other color coding in this guide is done based on the color of key items that are necessary for quests.
Tricks:
Hill Boosting - Jumping off of a shallow hill and landing on the far side slope will give the horse a small speed boost. This does not work if the hill is too steep, however. The best way to check is to see if the horse gets noticeably slower when walking down that hill normally - if it does, then it’s too steep to do a hill boost (and depending on the height, might cause a respawn)
Rock Boosting - Jumping into a roughly spherical boulder/rock can cause the horse to unpredictably fly off in seemingly random directions. This trick abuses the same physics quick as hill boosting, but because of the game’s tendency to respawn Barbie after falling, it’s not useable for cross-map movement. Testing on the PS2 version (which seems to have a longer respawn timer) concluded that this is somewhat consistent and could in some cases speed up overworld travel. Currently (as of 6-5-19) has no useful applications.
Grooming - As shown in the game’s tutorial portion, the horse must be groomed in one of 4 ways when the corresponding icon displays. However, runner Morry discovered that only 2 of these need to be satisfied at a time to keep the horse at full speed. This means that we can avoid getting off of the horse to groom in every part of the game except the tutorial. In all other instances, learn when to give the horse food & water to keep your top speed for the whole game!

Do first mansion race/get ribbon 1
Ribbon 2 race:
- First accept Roberts’ quest to unlock the ribbon 2 practice race. Give the horse water.
[A >> C] - leave out kyle’s side of the stables and head right to the coast.f
- Activate quest from little boy, the quest from Teresa (lady on hill), then from the sailor
- Get the two rings in front of you, then go down the coast to get the shells, bottle and boat
- Run back to the boy first to return the boat, then down to the cabins to get the last ring and hang them on the cabins, then over to the sailor to turn in the quest.
- Activate the next quest from the sailor, then collect all three of his items. Turn them in to him.
- [C >> B] Travel to the Ribbon 2 track. Give the horse water.
- Complete the quests at the track for the man, then complete the ribbon 2 race.
Jump Practice+Ribbon 3 race:
- Return to the stables to give Roberts the bottle. Do NOT turn in the shells.
- Switch horses
- Take the Runaway Horses quest from Kyle- do NOT do this quest
[A >> D] - hill boost on bridge (try it, might not work)
- Go to the Jump Practice track north of the mansion
- Accept the first two quests for the track from the lady. Then you will do the first race of it.
- After you will do the second quest from the lady for making higher jumps, then race that track.
[D >> E] - hill boost right in front of the door to the barn
- Once done, go to the jumping house for the actual jumping ribbon. Give the horse water. The lady there will give you a quest to get her cat. (can hill boost each way, location varies)
- Return to her with the cat and you will be able to do the Jumping ribbon race.
**Ribbon 4 race:***No need to switch horses
- Return to the stables. Go to Roberts to activate the carrots & diary quest. Give the horse water.
[A >> F]
- Do carrots quest. Do all the steps to complete it properly and get progress. Call Kyle to return to the stables, but do not turn in the carrots yet.
[A >>] - jump over left fence close to the gate
- Do Kyle’s Runaway Horses quest and put the devices on the horses - on the way, get the quest from the cabin girl up the hill.
- Return to the stables. Talk to Roberts to get progress for the cabin girl’s quest and the carrots. Talk to Kyle to turn in Runaway Horses and take Barbie Saves The Day.
- Enter the actual stable, and head to the right back corner to pick up the Aspirin.
- Back outside, give the horse food and give the Aspirin to cabin girl. Take the birdseed quest, and after collecting the one (and only) packet of birdseed, distribute it to all 5 birdhouses.
- Turn in the birdseed quest to cabin girl and take the hibiscus tea quest. Return to the stables, give the horse water, then collect the tea leaves and return them to cabin girl.
[A >> G]
- Give the horse water before the Ribbon 4 practice AND the Ribbon 4 race.
Ribbon 5 race:
- Climb the mountain to the radio tower area. Enter the small red shack to take a quest from the radio. Run across the area to turn on the light, then turn in the quest to the radio, and take the next quest.
- Ride downhill to cabin girl to turn in the radio quest.
- Switch horses back at the stables.
[A >> C]
- Head to the coast and grab the paint down by the buildings, then paint for Teresa.
[C >> H] - go out through intended path after turning in Teresa’s quest
- Go to the Ribbon 5 track and accept the Bird Nest quest and Sunflower Quest from the two ladies. Give the horse water.
- You can collect both items on the way for the bird nests. Collect the sunflowers & place the nests, and return to the ladies to turn in the quests.
- Do the quest of putting the sunflowers in vases.
- Accept the new quest from the sunflower lady for collecting red berries. Return the berries and the shells to Roberts at the stables.
[A >> H]
- Talk to berry lady again to accept the blackberry quest. [H >> C] to collect berries, then return to the lady to turn in. Give the horse water.
- Do the practice race AND Ribbon 5 race.
Wrap-Up/Graduation:
- After completing the Ribbon 5 quest, talk to the same lady to take the Graduation quest.
- Return to the stables and switch horses.
- Turn in the diary quest and take the next quest from the diary.
- Exit out the back left side of the stables (if facing the graduation house) and go to the top of the Mountain.
- Turn in quest/take next quest at the top of the mountain, then return to the stables.
- Go west towards the Ribbon 4 Track [G], but deviate north to visit the Ancient Oak. Progress the quest, then return to the stables. Give the horse water.
- Exit Kyle’s side of the stables to visit “hey, hi, how ya doin” girl near the cabin.
- Return to the stables. Talk to Kyle to turn in Hobbled Horse, then take Extracting the Nail. Grab the pliers from just inside the door of the actual stables.
- Ride to “hey, hi” girl. Use the pliers on the horse, then turn in the quest to her. Take her quest, and return to the Ancient Oak. After the cutscene, take the quest from the Oak, and turn it in to Roberts.
- Ride to the main house, and complete Graduation. Time ends.
