How to speedrun AOC2 in 11 easy steps!
Aggiornato trevorsmithy
di - Know the basic mechanics of the game. The tutorial, (while a bit confusing), helps.
- Mess around in a handful of practice games. Try experimenting with different diplomacy mechanics.
- Get the necessary software. For PC, I recommend OBS for recording/streaming and LiveSplit for timing. Look up tutorials on YouTube or guides on Google to get the basics.
- Find a "good length" record to go for. For me, this was United States. Brazil is also another good one. Essentially, you just want to practice quick mouse movements, quick thinking, and an ability to react to whatever the AI throws at you.
- After your first (few) practice run(s), try recording one. Commentary is great, but not necessary. Music is also great, but not necessary.
- Finally, you should have a decent knowledge of how the game works, how to record it, and how to speedrun. Now you just need to set OBS up right (see 3), check the rules for your run, make sure the splits are ABOVE the game in OBS, make sure you have a GLOBAL hotkey set to start the timer (I use NumPad1), and then hit record.
- In Options, set difficulty to Beginner (might as well), Fog of War to off, Game Speed to 200% (in most cases), and AI Aggressiveness to 50%. Pull up the Manage Diplomacy tab and show that you're not a dirty cheater.
- Start the game, set your budget, assign your research points, and begin fulfilling the conditions of the run.
- Once you have met the requirements of completion (Victory screen for Victory%, all territories controlled for Conquer%, etc.), make sure to stop your timer. Quickly check that you have ACTUALLY met all of the requirements BEFORE you stop recording. (Could mean showing the "Victory Conditions" under the Stats menu, showing the ranking menu, etc.)
- Upload the video to YouTube, making sure that it's in a somewhat decent quality. Name it something like "Age of Civilizations 2: [Scenario Name] [Time] {WR}" (<-- If you have it)
- "Share" the video, and get the link. Go to the scenario you ran, select the right category, and hit "Submit Run". Make sure to put in the time, Civilization you played as, Difficulty, whether or not you used Ultimatums/Trade Requests, the video link, and a short description (optional). And there you go! You've successfully (hopefully) submitted a run of Age of Civilizations 2! Now you just need to wait a day or two (on average) and it'll be verified and up on the leaderboards! Happy Speedrunning!
AOH3 OUT!!!
Hello everyone, we are glad to announce that Age of History 3 is finally out, as a community we hope to moderate the speedruns of the new version, but to do so we need a first run.
If you already have the game and think you know enough to make a Speedrun, go for it, send a message to any of the mod
