I tried to see if there was a thread about this previously, but couldn't find it, so I apologize if this is a duplicate ask.
But if we're allowing emulated memory cards (for the Golden Rod/Net runs, at least), and the Wii is allowed for emulating, it doesn't make sense to me why the Wii U isn't allowed.
I'm new to any formalities about this, but I literally only have a Wii U and PC, which it makes sense why Dolphin isn't allowed, but further if load times (for top 5) runs are being recalculated to remove load times, then that shouldn't be an issue either.
If there's legitimate reasoning against it, then I'll retract my qualms, but as I stumble into this, excited to start practicing these runs, I'd like to not have to buy a Wii or a new copy of the game for my gamecube, and in either case, a non-HDMI compatible capture box.
Thanks!
It might not even be entirely worth the hassle attempting to run the game on WiiU. I'm assuming since you're using an HDMI compatible capture box you also aren't using a crt as well. The game originally was designed with low input delay in mind; playing off the capture directly or using WiiU on more modern TV's and monitors would make fishing unnecessarily precise. I'm also finding issues with input delay on WiiU modding forums. Legal or not, imo it doesn't seem like an enjoyable or sustainable way to play. If you're really not wanting to spend any extra on hardware or whatnot you could always speedrun Wild World on your WiiU.
Oh wild, thank you for elaborating, that actually makes perfect sense! I guess I was under the impression that an HDMI and LCD would be the optimal way to play to remove lad, but that ultimately does make sense. I'll probably just do practice runs on Dolphin while I save up some funding.
Thank you for the lightning quick response, and for supporting this community!!
Just to add on, we're still in the process of evaluating 3rd party/emulated memory cards. We hadn't really considered the possibility of playing on a Wii U via vWii - I really don't know how that might affect load times etc. if at all. But for learning/practicing anything will work.
IMO the ideal setup is a Wii with any size physical memory card + a Wii HDMI adapter. This allows you to play on hardware, with GC controller, and virtually 0 input delay. I use and highly recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/MAYFLASH-Converter-Compatible-Nintendo-Monitor-Supports/dp/B07XG6X4TC
true if anything you could still test around the wiiu setup and share load time results and save speeds; see how consistent everything is and if it's viable. WiiU technically runs gamecube games natively if enabled with homebrew so it might run exactly the same as the wii/gc. id test using NINTENDONT to usb load. it might legit be 1 - 1 the exact same thing as usb load wii. im pretty sure NINTENDONT is loaded while in wii mode anyways.
