Introduction
A game that was once the flag-bearer for the groundbreaking tech giant Sony is now a distant, yet fond memory for many who grew up helping our hero, Abe, defeat the tyranny of a greedy conglomerate. But there is still life in the ol’ Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee yet - its speedrun continues to perplex, goad and excite even the most talented of players. Those new to the run can be forgiven for thinking it straightforward - after all, it’s a linear path with nicely laid out strats. However, the game becomes more complicated the deeper you delve and the more beautiful.
But where to start? Well, right here! Whether you’re a seasoned speedrunner looking to take on their next challenge, or a traveler returning to the nostalgia of their childhood game, this guide has you covered. In this runner’s handbook, you’ll find all the main strats for getting Abe from zero to hero in no time at all. Each section provides multiple alternatives organized by difficulty, so you can decide how hard a time your thumbs will have! Though be aware, generally the fastest strats are the hardest (with a few exceptions).
Each level has target times for you to attempt, so you have an achievable goal to aim for as you learn! Why not record/stream some runs as you go - you can submit your runs to speedrun.com to show off when you hit a target!
Currently, only the Any% NMG category is covered, but one may be produced for others depending on demand. Please feel free to send us your questions, feedback, and requests over at our speedrunning Discord! You are always welcome (as long as you bring cookies)!
A full playlist of all levels can be found here

Individual section guides will be added as they are completed.
This guide was written by @GeekyLucii and all the videos were completed by @MarkTheW0lf with her assistance.
Difficulties are as follows
-
Beginner - Usually the easiest way to do a strat. The 'safest' way. Typically the slowest but will get you through the area without dying. (Most of the time.)
-
Advanced - A big tougher, these are far and few in this guide but will allow for you to have an alternative way to do something that is just a bit faster than beginner strats but not as fast as the expert.
-
Expert - These are the toughest strats we have. A lot of them are frame perfect and require perfect input to be done correctly. Be careful when attempting these and make sure you're ready.
-
Universal - Sometimes areas only have 1 way of doing them. That is where the universal difficulty comes into play.
Rupture Farms
Target Times
- Beginner: 2mins
- Advanced: 1min 40secs
- Expert: 1min 30secs
Welcome to the first level of the game. You’ll see this beginning section a lot so don’t be intimidated by it!
Ah, Level 1 - a thorn in the side of the speedrunner. The first level to learn, the first level to get through, a level you will be seeing again, and again, and again.
Let’s have at it.
[big]Sleeping Slig[/big]
Rupture Farms’ Employee of the Month meets Rupture Farms’ worst employee ever. But don’t be fooled - he’s just as deadly. This is an unusually difficult strat for so early in the run.
- Beginner
- Sneak quietly past the slig until you reach that mudokon hard at work.
- Then you’re outside of earshot enough to hop to the lever.
- After pulling, turn and hop right on past and onwards to freedom!
- Advanced
This is where your run-to-walks come in.
- Sneak past the slig to the mudokon, then hop to the lever.
- Turn, then perform one run-to-walk before returning to running in order to slip on by. (RIP Mud  )
- Expert
This is a toughie.
- Our sliggie here’s a deep sleeper, so we can roll right up to the tile where you meet the barrel (or the slig’s legs) before a roll-to-sneak.
- Sneak to the working mudokon, then hop to the lever.
- Once pulled, you’re free to roll right past the slig, but with one subtlety: **You must stop rolling for at least a frame on the tile where the slig stands.**This is a Quik Pause. If you don’t stop, the slig shoots you. If you wait too long, the slig shoots you. If you stop one tile too early, the slig shoots you. A tile too late, the slig… yeah. This will take some getting use to. Pro-gamer move: Begin running as the transition passes - Abe will be on the correct run cycle for you to land on the elevator with a nice run-to-walk.
[big]Scaredy Slig[/big]
The next difficult step is in the meat grinder section. We’re gonna scare the living bejebus out of an innocent, unsuspecting sliggie! There are two ways we can do this:
- Beginner/Advanced
- Hoist up to the ledge, then just continue running to the next screen.
- During the transition, let go of everything so that Abe slides.
- While he’s sliding, you’re good to hold the chant buttons down to give the slig the fright of his shift.
- Instantly hop into a run to take advantage of this distraction!
- Expert
Ok, here’s the swag scare.
- What you want to do is take one roll so you can run-to-walk through the transition and land on the first tile of the next screen.
- Now, we want to do a quick chant on one specific frame. That’s right, this strat is frame-perfect, so be prepared for a lot of trial-and-error practice! Many people try to time it so that Abe chants just before the transition finishes. If successful, a quick run and jump will get you past this silly sliggie. If not, well… Note: there is another frame where this is successful, but it happens 3 frames after the one you really want. So it’s quick, but you do lose those three frames. Not costly in a full run, but disastrous for that frame-perfect™ Rupture Farms.
- After that perfect chant, run-jump your way onwards!
[big]Shadow Slig[/big]
Straight after scaredy slig, we run into shadow slig. Here we utilize that dark space to slip on by! There’s two ways to do it:
- Beginner/Advanced
- Here, Abe needs to roll right into the first shadow and just stop there for a bit.
- When the slig shouts “what?”, that’s when you make your move. The slig will be too stunned by your sheer arrogance to shoot you before you roll on by.
- Expert
This is exactly the same as the beginner strat, but the pause in the shadow is a lot more brief! Here it’s only for one or two frames, so Abe can roll past while the slig is preoccupied with his “what?” animation. This is the Quick Pause. Throwback: For those who do the expert strat at sleeping slig, you would have seen the Quick Pause there!
[big]Bomb Throw[/big]
We’re almost there! Just got a few bombs to negotiate before we make our swift escape!
- Beginner/Advanced
- Take a look at the expert video, we’re going to be doing the same thing to start with.
- After reaching the top platform, we turn towards the bombs and throw up! (⬆️) The bombs are then toast 😎 . Note: we advise rolling to the end of the platform so Abe doesn’t get knocked over by the explosion and he’s right where he needs to be to hoist down after all the bombs have exploded!
- Expert
- After throwing the bomb upwards ⬆️ from the pulley, roll to the ledge to avoid getting knocked over by the first two quick explosions.
- Abe tactically waits at the ledge for the third explosion to finish before hoisting down.
- Don’t worry about the last explosion, Abe is quite safe as he hoists down on his way to FREEDOM! A little trick: as you hoist down, hold the right button ➡️ to skip Abe’s landing animation. But be careful you don’t hold it for too long, Abe doesn’t have wings!
Stockyards
Target Times
- Beginner: 1mins 25secs
- Advanced: 1min 15secs
- Expert: 1min 6secs
The cold, dark outskirts of Rupture Farms. Is that freedom in the air, or the stench of the fallen mudokons who tried their hand at escape? The path starts deceptively simple, with pure platform gaming to begin with, but soon throws some tremendously tricky tests at you. Are you ready?
Ok, let’s go.
[big]Quik Sligs[/big]
Abe’s first major test is to get past the slig on the bottom level. The beginner way is to just wait in the shadows, but you can waltz your way past them, if you have the moves 😉.
- Advanced
- You can jump over the gap by holding the jump button during the transition.
- After that, it’s a tap of the roll button to get Abe running on the right tile cycle, before a run-to-walk to land Abe one tile away from the ledge.
- A quick chant freaks the sligs out enough for you to run-jump off the ledge and through the transition.
- But be careful! Run-to-walk in the transition to avoid sending Abe flying off into the night.
- Expert
- Just like the advanced strat, hold jump through the transition to mind the gap.
- Then roll all the way, but do a Quick Pause in the shadow to fool the unsuspecting slig below.
- To stick the perfect landing (the one where you don’t get shot), roll-jump as late as possible, so Abe is jumping on the final tile of the platform.
- Then, as in the advanced strat, Abe needs to run-to-walk through the transition to avoid some fireworks. Note: A run-to-walk is tough if you’re not use to it. A run-to-walk through a transition is even tougher because you have to hold the directional button for even longer as you wait for the transition to pass. Throwback: We first saw the Quick Pause in the expert strat for Sleeping Slig!
[big]Lover Sligs[/big]
Two sligs taking a quick break together in a dark, secluded area? AND THEY’RE MAKING THE SHAPE OF A HEART?? Definitely Lover Sligs 😍.
- Beginner
- As you run towards these lover-sligs, take a sneaky jump through the transition to take them by surprise!
- Then just carry on and jump onto the ledge!
- Advanced
- Instead of a jump through transition, we’re gonna roll through and do a Quik Stop in the shadows! That’ll show ‘em!
- You’re then free to (quickly!) make your way to the ledge.
[big]Sprinter Slig[/big]
Time for that slig’s evening run!
- Universal
- First thing’s first: jump on the upper platform so you get a fast fall on your way off the ledge!
- Then roll past the slig and onto the next screen!
- But wait! There’s another slig! Stop rolling on the tile just after the first shadow, so the slig sees you, and immediately turn and roll away!
- Once you get back to the previous screen, you’re safe to run/roll back to the left (your choice!). The slig should just run on by, off into the sunset! Note: The tile you stop rolling on is important! If you roll an extra tile, you die. If you roll one tile too few, the slig won’t see you and won’t chase you. You need to get him moving in order to get on by!
[big]Slog Skip[/big]
Good job! You’ve made it to the end of Stockyards. However, the final boss awaits you: the Slog Skip. It relies on a good setup, covered in the Oddity, but can be done in a few ways:
Set-up The first part of the strat is the same for all difficulties.
- Get past the first slog by jumping over it, but we want to do it in a way that keeps the slog close to us (see Oddity).
- With the slog chasing close, jump off the final tile of the ledge and the slog will fly off with you! Now he’s still a good distance behind you.
- Make two well-timed jumps past the second slog and bomb.
- Now you’re ready to take on the final boss!
- Beginner
The first way is to not engage the final slog at all!
- Roll on the next screen to avoid getting knocked over by the explosion, and strengthen your heart so the death of poor sloggos doesn’t cause you to lose focus! 😭
- With your heart now blackened, roll to the final tile of the platform, stand and chant to get the final slog to clear the path for Abe to take his leap of faith! Pro-tip: crouch after chanting so the sheer emotional damage of the slog’s death doesn’t knock Abe to his knees!
- Advanced
Advanced Abe doesn’t let a thing like morality slow him down - he deals with that final slog head-on! This is where the set-up is really important: this will not work if you don’t have, or recover, a ‘good slog’ (see Oddity).
- Hold the jump through the transition to leap through the air and grab the ledge while the bomb explodes.
- Immediately run, slide and chant to wake that slog up.
- Then, immediately turn and run-to-roll to the right. The slog will run to the left and take out one of those pesky mines.
- Get two tiles away from the right-most mine so you can hop on through towards your destiny.
- Expert
The expert strat is essentially the same as the advanced one, with one small difference saving you an entire frame (0.033sec), if done right!
- After hoisting up the final ledge, run into a roll and do a frame-perfect stand up. (That’s what saves you the frame over the slide).
- Then chant to wake up the slog and run-to-roll to the right to avoid the explosion.
- The path is then clear(er) for you to progress! This movement is much more difficult than the slide, not only because it’s frame-perfect but also because it’s difficult to stop in the right place. But this is how you do it if you want to be the fastest Abe in the multiverse!
- Oddity
At the end of the above video, @MarkTheW0lf explains the difference between a good slog and a bad slog. This is important - for our strats to work, we need to get a good slog.
So what is a good sloggo? That’s the one who is loyal and follows close behind you! A bad one is the slog that keeps his distance.
You can maximize your chances of getting a good slog by jumping in the right place, either by jumping on the tile with the large tree branch in the background, or landing on the tile with the smaller tree branches poking through. However, even if you get the jump correct, you can still get a bad slog depending on if it’s scratching itself or not. Unfortunately, this is out of our control and in the hands of the all-powerful RNG.
If you get a good slog, great! Proceed to the next screen, but make sure you jump on the final tile of the platform. That ensures that the slog stays close to you.
If you get a bad slog, you need to perform a run-to-walk to let it catch up with you. You can either do this straight away, like in the video, or perhaps after jumping off the ledge. If you choose to wait after you jump, you need to spend longer walking, and so this is a little slower.
That’s the first slog. The second can also be bad, though this is quite rare. As you run towards it, the second slog might bark twice before pouncing, which will always lead to Abe’s demise. This is unavoidable, and again down to RNG.
Monsaic Lines
Target Times
- Beginner: 2mins 11secs
- Advanced: 2min 06secs
- Expert: 2min 01sec
Abe had made it to his own kind’s homeland, a monastery full of peace, serenity and… natural deathtraps. It’s here where Abe learns his fate: to run like no mud has ever run before. But how can he do so when his fellow mudokons always keep asking him to stop and sing them a song? Why are they so moody anyway? Maybe the WiFi signal is bad, or perhaps they’re fresh out of Meech Munchies. We’ll never know: there’s no time to stop and ask!
[big]First Native[/big]
Our first native meanie is just a hop, skip and a jump away! Well, it’s more like a nice run-jump-walk and a hop to get past the falling boulders. From there, we’ve got three different ways to show this mud the hand.
- Beginner
The first is the easiest and slowest, though not by much!
- Run into the transition
- As the screen swipes, let go of all buttons to slide right on in.
- Tap the chant button 🙏 twice to perform two Quik Chants, then
- Crouch and roll through!
- For a quick fall, exit the roll as soon as you get to the edge of the ledge! You’ll land one tile closer to the door.
- Advanced
This one is more difficult to get right!
- Roll onto the screen with the mud, then
- stop at exactly the same tile as Tutorial Abe does. You can either stop as the moment the native appears, stop at the middle dark branch of the foreground, or the middle tuft of yellow grass in the background.
- Once you stop the roll, stand up, turn to the right, then turn to the left and
- take two hops! (And remember to tap him on the shoulder and smile as you go past, for the swag points, of course!)
- Expert
This is one for those stingy with their frames!
- Stop at the same tile as you do in the advanced strat: the one at the middle dark branch of the foreground, the middle tuft of yellow grass in the background or stop the moment the native appears.
- Immediately stand, then
- hop at just the right moment! YOLO it! There are cues to help you time this: many start hopping as the native puts his hands together (by the time he stretches the sling, it’s too late! Abe’s gone!). Others remain crouched and choose the right time to roll through, then exiting the roll right at the end of the ledge to land close to the door. Whichever way works best for you!
[big]Native Sligs[/big]
How’d these sligs get here, anyway? For vacation? Are they immigrating, or seeking sanctuary? Whatever they’re doing, those guns don’t look friendly…
- Universal
The best way to give ‘em the slip is to
- hold the right button ➡️ as you come out of the door to take a step,
- chant to get that sliggie moving,
- then take a right step and
- run-to-roll your way by!
- Hold the roll all the way if you want, or run after you get past the first slig.
- On the next screen, jump up to the ledge to get out of harm’s way, but be careful: if you jump too early Abe will bonk, then a headache will be the least of his worries!
- Jump off the ledge to get a fast-fall, and if you jumped at the correct tile, Abe’s run cycle will place you on the lift with a nice run-to-walk.
[big]Second Native[/big]
Oh no, not another one! But have no fear, Abe can get clear!
- Universal
- Begin by immediately rolling to the left, then
- you can hold a run-jump to make it over the ledge.
- Immediately hoist up, and
- harness your inner-beyblade by turning right, then left.
- Beginning run-jumping only once Abe’s turn animation has finished. Any earlier, and you’ll be sent tumbling off the edge. Note: some runners prefer to time it by eye rather than using the turn animation.
- A run-to-walk will take you right onto the lever.
[big]Third Native[/big]
Not a third one! Ah, it’s ok, Abe’s a pro at giving them the slip by now 😎.
- Universal
- Once the lever has been pulled, slide onto the lower platform and
- step into the well. Entering the well from the upper platform just spits you back out.
- On landing, hold the chant button 🙏 for two ‘long chants’.
- During the second long chant, you can hold the buttons to run left ⬅️ and Abe will run right on by once he’s finished. This is the easiest and fastest way to get through. The game is not often this kind to us! [big]Fourth Native[/big]
Abe must now face the final native, the final challenge, the final boss of Monsaic Lines. Let’s get to work.
- Beginner
- We want to begin by rolling towards the native here (this is a mudokon’s way of asserting dominance).
- When we get to that little yellow leaf in the background, we step out of the roll and
- perform two long chants.
- During the second long chant, we’re free to hold the buttons to run-to-roll our way outta there!
- On the next screen, we take the leap of faith by jumping out of the roll. Due to movement quirks, this gives us an extra tile compared to just run-jumping.
- Remember to hold run-left ⬅️ as you fall to cancel the landing animation!
- Advanced
- Here we take a single roll to get ourselves on the right run cycle.
- Then slide to a halt, landing just to the right of that little yellow leaf in the background. You can either aim for that, let go of the slide as Abe gets past the help message or listen out for one of Abe’s steps before letting go of the run button.
- Immediately do two Quik Chants 🙏, then
- crouch and
- roll your way on by!
- On the next screen, we take the leap of faith by jumping out of the roll. Due to movement quirks, this gives us an extra tile compared to just run-jumping.
- Remember to hold run-left ⬅️ as you fall to cancel the landing animation!
- Expert
Ok then, ready to go all-in? To risk it all?
- Assert your dominance by making a rolling approach.
- Stop just to the right of that small yellow leaf in the background.
- Roll on by when the time’s right. Here we rely on feeling: we’ll move just as the mud puds that mean sling down. You can also try to time it using Abe’s breathing as he waits for his opportunity to strike!
Which Level First? Paramonia or Scrabania?
The path branches here: runners are free to complete Paramonia first, or Scrabania first. But which is the best?
That’s entirely up to you! For the hardcore runners among you, going Paramonia-first is technically faster by a single frame (0.033secs). This is because Abe faces the correct way when loading into Paramonia, but upon saving and resetting he faces the wrong way! Those going Paramonia second must save and reset at this point, wasting a frame by having to turn to face the right way.
However, full runs are (realistically) not decided by a single frame. Runners are therefore encouraged to make a tactical decision here:
- Beginner
After learning both Paramonia and Scrabania (with their trials), head to the level you dislike first! If you’re going to fail and lose lots of time in Scrabania, it’s better to do that before you’ve spent your time and energy sweating through Paramonia. Conversely, if you hate Paramonia, do that first to make sure you can get through it before doing the more safe Scrabania.
- Advanced
Once you get comfortable with both sets of levels, consider swapping the order you play. If your early days were spent visiting the sunny plains of Scrabania first, then consider swapping to the cool rainforest climate of Paramonia. In your full-run attempts, you would have naturally played Scrabania a lot more than Paramonia, and so you’ve had more practice at skipping those scrabs. It sounds like those paramites need a bit more love going forward. Conversely, if you’ve done Paramonia first then swapping to Scrabania first will give you more experience there.
- Expert
If you’re comfortable with both sets of levels, weigh up their difficult strats and RNG. Currently, there isn’t a strong consensus in the speedrunning community, especially with new, more risky strats being discovered all the time.
Paramonia
The deep and beautiful rainforests of Paramonia are a fantastic holiday destination for any jaded factory mudokon, but Abe has no time to hang around! He must get to the temple to begin his trial! Perhaps he can find a trusty friend to help him ride fast to his destiny!
[big]Summon Elum[/big]
Time for Elum to wake up and lend a hoof, but there’s a sneaky, sleeping slig guarding his alarm bell!
- Beginner
- The first step for this one is actually a roll! We need to offset Abe’s run cycle by one tile to get us on the correct tile. Note: If you die and respawn, Abe is placed one tile behind where you originally loaded in, meaning you don’t have to roll to get on the desired tile!
- When you go through the second transition, hold left ⬅️ to slide into the third screen,
- then as you’re sliding left, hold right ➡️to slide to the right again.
- Now the more difficult part: as you’re holding right to slide right, let go of the run button to land Abe right on that lever.
- A jump in the well takes you to Elum’s bell, but make sure you walk off both platforms in order to get a rock from the sack.
- If you’re very quick to stand on the tile where the rock lands, you’ll need a quick chant to pass the time before you’re able to pick it up!
- Next, while Elum rubs the sleep from his eyes, get Abe to the final tile of the screen and
- throw with the right button ➡️ to explode the bomb on the next screen.
- Get onto Elum and proceed onwards!
- Expert
- The first step for this one is actually a roll! We need to offset Abe’s run cycle by one tile to get us on the right tile. Note: If you die and respawn, Abe is placed one tile behind where you originally loaded in, meaning you don’t have to roll to get on the desired tile!
- Run right past the slig and
- run-to-walk through the transition to get to the lever.
- Pull the lever and
- run back to the well before the slig gets you!
- After waking up sleepy Elum, walk off both platforms to get a rock from the sack.
- When landing on the ground, run-to-roll immediately to the left and
- stop on the next screen at the right-hand post of that helpful sign in the background.
- Roll immediately to the right to give that slig the slip!
- Pick up the rock on your way to the final tile of the screen and
- give it a right-throw ➡️ to clear the way to the next section. [big]Guarded Lift[/big]
Abe’s making his way up towards the tree-tops, but there are still so many sligs in his way! To make matters worse, a meanie mudokon is making Abe sing for access to the lift! Oh no!
- Set-up The normal set-up is:
- Jump across to the other side of the gap while the mudokon takes his place.
- As soon as the mud farts, you can begin reciting the password as fast as you can. You don’t have to remember it because the mud instructs you, but for reference, it’s ⬇️, ⬆️, ⬆️, ⬇️, 💨.
There is an alternative if you’d like to play it a bit safer:
- When entering the screen, walk far enough that the mudokon appears, but not so far that you hit the checkpoint (represented by the floating diamond).
- Give the password and wait for the lift to fully dock before
- passing through the checkpoint and
- getting on the lift and going. The benefit of this way is that if you die before reaching the next checkpoint, the lift will already be there when you respawn, so you don’t have to give the password again! This is the recommended setup if you’re expecting a few deaths before the next checkpoint!
- Beginner
- While the mudokon is giving you the password, you need to throw away all rocks for the beginner strat!
- Once you ascend to the next platform, run left and
- run-jump to pick up more rocks! Note: We promise this is the fastest way! We do this to make sure we have the correct number of rocks going forward.
- Position Abe at the center of the lift, then
- throw the rock up ⬆️
- and immediately run-to-roll onto the next screen! Note: You’ve gotta be quick! Neither the slig nor the bomb spawns in until you enter the screen, so you gotta get there before the rock falls off the platform!
- The slig should now be dealt with! Now just get to the lift and carry on the climb, but don’t forget Elum!
- Advanced
Note: Don’t throw away any rocks.
- After ascending in the lift, mount Elum,
- take one step forward,
- and hop twice to get in position.
- Take a little bit of time to steel yourself before
- greeting the slig with a hearty “hi!” and
- immediately hopping and
- dismounting Elum. We wait a little bit before saying “hi!” because the slig can turn and shoot you if you say it too fast. However, you really don’t have to wait for long at all! Helpful tip: You can hold the hop button while Abe is speaking for an immediate hop! But you cannot hold down while hopping for an immediate dismount. For this, button smashing is recommended.
- If you successfully duped the slig, you’re good to ascend to the next platform!
- Expert - Fearless Elum
Ok, here goes. The fastest and riskiest strat in all Paramonia.
Note: Don’t throw away any rocks.
- After ascending in the lift, mount Elum,
- take a run-jump, then
- run two steps into
- a slide. Note: The main difficulty is finishing on the correct tile - i.e. one hop from the lift. You can choose to count the steps, listen out for two steps, or aim to land Elum’s feet just left of the platform support. However you do it, practice practice practice!
- Once you’ve made it to the correct tile, shout a hearty “hi!” and
- immediately hop to the lift and
- immediately dismount! Helpful tip: You can hold the hop button while Abe is speaking for an immediate hop! But you cannot hold down while hopping for an immediate dismount. For this, button smashing is recommended.
- Before the slig realizes you’ve gotten by, ascend to the next platform!
[big]Annoying Bees[/big]
Elum, no! There’s no time for honey!
Note: While this strat is universal, it is still a very difficult strat. If you struggle with it, or make a mistake attempting it, you can just wait for Elum to shake off those annoying bees before continuing your journey.
- Universal
- To weaponize said bees, go against your good conscience and knock their nest down by turning to the left and throwing the rock up ⬆️.
- Take a step to the right, and
- take a stretch, before
- running left into a roll, stopping on Elum.
- Now you have the bees’ attention, roll to the right and
- stop at the bomb two screens away.
- The bomb will always have the same cycle, so we use the bees to time it - tap the bomb just after they reach Abe. Some practice may be needed.
- Run to the left to get through the transition,
- then do one roll to shift your run cycle and
- a run-to-walk to stop on the spot Elum lands on. Here, practice will be needed.
- But the bees are still coming! Get on Elum quick and
- run-jump your way outta there!
Note: to set up the next part nicely, hold the run-jump through the door at the end and then let go of all buttons!
[big]Swag Lift[/big]
Abe has more trees to climb! But there are more sligs in the way! That’s ok - Abe knows a stealthy, swaggy way to get by them all.
Note that even though there is just one strat for this section, there are two parts that can be tweaked to make them much easier. These are all explained below.
- Universal If you run-jumped correctly through the previous door, you will find yourself on the last tile of the ledge.
- Dismount Elum, then
- hop to the left and
- immediately run-jump to the ledge.
- Head on up to the next screen and
- deal with the bombs by throwing a rock left ⬅️against the wall.
- Be quick to hoist up to the next ledge to avoid getting exploded!
- Once one or both bombs are gone, it’s safe to come back down and
- pull the lever. You may decide to wait for the lift to come down, or you can
- walk right one step, then
- walk two steps to the left-most tile of the platform.
- Turn to the right, but let Abe’s turning animation play out fully before
- run-jump-to-walking onto the platform.
- Take the ropes and head on down to Elum.
- Once the elevator docks, tell Elum to follow you.
- If you’ve done everything really quickly from the start of the section, you can immediately ascend and Elum will meet you halfway. If not, you can wait for Elum to fall to you.
[big]Falling Elum[/big]
Elum does not mess around. That cliff there? Yes, that one, the one where falling off means certain death? Elum takes those for breakfast.
- Universal When run-jumping towards the last lift of the level,
- run or slide off and Elum will take it like an absolute champ. Be careful: If you’ve already died after this part, you need to walk off the ledge instead. For some reason, Abe’s momentum is different here, and sliding or running will take you to the ledge above where you want to go. The slig on the top isn’t as generous as the one below 💀.
