How to determine which version of Sonic Jump you are playing!
Aggiornato 2 months ago di brokenhyperlink

Since becoming a mod and trying to unify the Java boards a bit more, I’ve been making some guides and adding links/resources to each board where possible. Sonic Jump is a weird one. The Sonic Jump series consists of 4 games: Sonic Jump (2005), Sonic Jump 2 (2008), Sonic Jump Pro (2012) and Sonic Jump Fever (2014). However, for some reason, the first 3 games were released as Sonic Jump and were later renamed or were left as the "wrong name" (Think similarly to Final Fantasy having different numbers in the west). Each game is visually distinct and are grouped into Java and Android. This guide is to help runners understand all four/find which one they are running on/discover it isn't just a low even version.

Sonic Jump (2005, v1.0)

This is the original release of the franchise. It came out in Japan and Brazil, however, there is currently only three dumps of this rom. These are the key identifiers:

  • TecToy Mobile release for Siemens, Motorola and Sony Ericsson S700 and requires a Java phone or emulator
  • Resolution is 132x176 to 240x320
  • Game is only in Portugese or Chinese
  • Sonic has blue eyes on the title screen with a greyscale Eggman in the background
  • There are only six zones with one level each with no addition Bonus Zone: Green Hill, Blue Sky, Mechanical, Mountain, Jungle, Cosmic

Sonic Jump 2 (2008, v1.0.0 - v1.0.4)

Sonic Jump 2 was released in Japan and Brazil as Sonic Jump 2, but worldwide, it was called Sonic Jump. This is where the confusion starts. There are currenetly 60 dumps of Sonic Jump 2 and 21 dumps of Sonic Jump 2 bundled with Brain Genius. These are the key identifiers:

  • Glu Mobile release for several mobiles devices and requires a Java phone or emulator
  • Resolution is 128x160 to 360x640 in portrait mode and 320x240 in landscape mode
  • Game starts in English but offers French, Italian, Dutch, Spanish and Portugese
  • Title screen says Sonic Jump for the worldwide release but it is Sonic Jump 2
  • Sonic has his correct green eyes on the title screen and is jumping off from the ground
  • There are six zones, with a Bonus Zone revealed at collecting all 6 emeralds first available, totalling 7 zones: Green Hill, Blue Sky, Mechanical, Mountain, Jungle, Cosmic, Bonus
  • Each zone consists of three acts, with the third act having a boss fight at the end, totalling 21 acts (18 before the Bonus Zone is revealed)
  • Bonus Zone is revealed upon collecting and finishing with 50 rings in each act to "collect" the act's respective Chaos Emerald Shard
  • Sprites are taken from Sonic Advance
  • Game has cutscenes with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman

Sonic Jump Pro (2012)

Originally released as Sonic Jump in 2012, Sonic Jump Pro was released internationally on various smart mobile platforms. Whilst having the same name as the previous two games, the visuals are vastly different. It is unknown how many versions there was or how many dumps but it is much easier to obtain than the java games. These are the key identifiers:

  • Hardlight release for iOS, Android and Facebook Messenger
  • Resolution automatically changes to match the resolution of the phone that it's playing on
  • Game utilises motion controls to move the characters
  • There are 7 released characters; Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Blaze, Rouge and Silver
  • There are only five zones: Green Hill, Mountain, Jungle, Blue Sky, Mechanical
  • Within Story Mode, each zone contains twelve acts with three bonus missions and follows a plot
  • The arcade mode is an infinite challenge, which only ends when the player falls or dies by hitting a Badnik or spikes
  • Each act has 3 Red Star Rings to collect
  • Each act gets ranked from S to D
  • The in-game store contains characters, power-ups and wallpapers to buy

Sonic Jump Fever (2014)

Sonic Jump Fever was the only game to be released without just being called Sonic Jump. Sonic Jump Pro was released internationally on various smart mobile platforms. Whilst having the same name as the previous two games, the visuals are vastly different. There are 18 versions but it is unknown how many dumps there are, with Version 1.6.1 being the last release. These are the key identifiers:

  • Hardlight release for iOS and Android
  • Resolution automatically changes to match the resolution of the phone that it's playing on
  • Game utilises motion controls to move the characters
  • There are 7 released characters; Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Blaze, Shadow and Silver
  • The game doesn't have a Story Mode or Acts as it is a high-score, endless runner type game
