Rivals of Aether II: Downpatching Guide

STEP 1

Win+r steam://open/console

STEP 2

Copy+paste (without quotes) “download_depot 2217000 2217001 4749613566750724474” into the Steam Console and press ‘enter.’  The string at the end is the Manifest ID, which tells Steam which version of the game to download. For the sake of the tutorial, the Manifest ID above is for version 1.0.1, but the IDs for the other patches are listed at the bottom of the guide. It may take several minutes for your download to complete.

STEP 3

In Steam, right-click on ‘Rivals of Aether II’ and select manage > browse local files and go back one folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\ common.

STEP 4

In Steam\steamapps\common, Create a copy of your Rivals 2 folder and name it “Rivals 2new.”

STEP 5

Navigate to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_2217000\depot_2217001” and copy the contents of this folder into your “Rivals 2” folder.

STEP 6

In Steam, right click on ‘Rivals of Aether II’ and navigate to ‘Properties > Updates’ and set ‘Automatic Updates’ to ‘Only update this game when I launch it’

Congrats! Opening the game through Steam will run whichever version is in the folder named “Rivals 2,” which should now be release version 12562 (1.0.1.x, 11/21/2024).

NOTE:

Remember to keep “Rivals 2 new” up to date. When an update is available, rename the folders:

“Rivals 2” > “Rivals 2 1.0.1” and “Rivals 2new” > “Rivals 2”. Then, download the update and launch the current patch through Steam at least once. This will prevent Steam from forcing you to update before running the old version again.
