Collisions, known examples and resolutions

A collision occurs when multiple games from the same series or multiple editions of the same game are submitted. Since you're not allowed to play the same piano twice, it must be guaranteed that the pianos are 2 different pianos, and not the same piano in both games.



The Myst series:

There are give or take 6 editions of the origial Myst game. Each of them includes 2 pianos: one on the main Island, one in the Selenitic age. In the edition "Myst ME" the piano in Selenitic cannot be played, but in the edition "Myst 2020" it can. Therefore a resolution is to have 2 submissions: one playing "Myst 2020" with the Selenitic Piano and one playing "Myst ME" with the piano on Myst island.

The Trilobyte series:

The Stauf mansion has 3 Piano-Like instruments: The Harpsicord, the Chapel organ and the grand piano. In "The 7th Guest" you can play the piano and the organ, in "The 11th Hour" you can only play the organ, and in "The 13th Doll" you can play the Piano and the Harpsichord. A resolution is hence to play the Haprsichord in "The 13th Doll", the organ in  "The 11th Hour" and the piano in "The 7th Guest".

Q: Why would I play a game like Silent Hill, where the Piano is very far into the game?

A: The main ranking of the leaderboard is points, not time. A score of 11 with a very long game is higher on the leaderboard than a score of 10 with a short time.

Q: Does this not favour people who can afford to buy more games?

A: The attempt to curb that argument is to find as many published games that are either free, or have free demos or are otherwise available without cost. See the "Free games" guide

Q: Why do I have to play Phantasmagoria?

A: I was granted this leaderboard granted after multiple reviews, after attaching it as a Category Extension of Phantasmagoria, with the explicit statement that Phantasmagoria will be mandatory. You can submit a run of the demo, freely available on the archive (see Free Games Guide), and it's easy to get it below 10 seconds.

Q: What is a collision?

A: A collision is when you have 2 runs in the same game (series). It needs to be resolved by explaining why the pianos are actually different. See the guide section on collisions for more details and examples.

How to submit a segmented run, with example

A run submission consists of 3 parts, and assumes that you have the corresponding number of verified IL submissions. Keep in mind that (for now) Phantasmagoria is mandatory

ANY SUBMISSION AFTER THE FIRST SHOULD BE A RESUBMISSION OF THE PREVIOUS ONE (see below example). That's because everyone can only have have one submission on the Segmented board.

Part 1: Calculation of the time. Add a quick calculation of the sums of the individual times for the total time

Part 2: Individual links and times. Please provide for each run the NAME OF THE GAME, the TIME of that run, and a LINK to your SRC level submission. Please do NOT include a link to the VIDEO but to the actual IL run submissions, so it can be easily verified that the run is valid with the correct time.

Part 3: Resolution of collisions, if necessary

so, when you want to add a new piano that you have approved in IL or an old one where you improved the time, you EDIT the approved run to include the new information: update the run time, the submission date, and optionally the number of points). Also edit the comment to include any new information. It will be resubmitted and reapproved.

How to submit a sequential run, with example

Before you start your run, make sure all games you wanted to run have been have been approved as IL categories. Also make sure that all collisions are resolved (see collision guide)

As opposed to the "segmented" category, you can have multiple runs in multiple point classes, since these are actual individual runs that are submitted, and not a summary of other runs.

You may load up all games before the run starts, but you need to make sure that none of them have reached the state where the timer is started (this is critical for runs that start on gaining control rather than first input).

Please make sure that every game, once active, plays audio, so the piano can be heard.

You then start your timer corresponding to the timing rule of your first run, and end it on playing the piano. You may only start the next game AFTER hearing the first note of the previous piano (or acquire a penalty of at least 5s). The run ends on hearing the first note in the last game. The time is everything from the start of the first timer to the first note of the last game. Including setups and loads. Real Time.

You may run them in any order.

In the comment, please add the IL PAGE of each game you have included, in the order they appear in your run.
