MK8DX had a 99% category extension which just unlocks all characters and vehicle parts besides Gold Glider, removing things that were either excessively grind-heavy (Gold Glider) or didn't technically unlock anything or get tracked in-game (200cc Time Trial ghosts). Although it's not literally 99%, MKWorld could also have a 100%-lite category called 99%. So at the end unlocking Mirror Mode would just be finishing all Knockout Tours by getting eliminated at first checkpoint then completing Special Cup.
- Unlock every character and costume
- Finish all 394 P-Switch Missions
- Collect all 150 ? Panels
- Collect all 200 Peach Medallions
- Unlock Mirror Mode
@NitTheNat (Nathaniel in MKWorld Speedrunning Discord) already did the (to our knowledge) first 100% run with a time of 56:39:12, not including breaks.
100% Requirements for MKWorld:
- Earn 3 stars in every Grand Prix cup and Knockout Tour rally on Mirror Mode
- Unlock every character and costume
- Beat every official Time Trial ghost
- Finish all 394 P-Switch Missions
- Collect all 150 ? Panels
- Collect all 200 Peach Medallions
- Catch Nabbit
- Complete a Chargin' Chuck challenge
- Collect 30,000 coins
- Perform 30,000 tricks
- Drive 5,000 kilometers
- Glide 200 kilometers
- Finish 500 races

This is what he had to say about the run in the Discord:
I plan on making a video explaining everything I went through for the 100% Run, but I just want to note down some important things both for runners and for the mod team
Ensuring You Have Enough Video Storage: Given how long the speedrun is, you at least wanna make sure when recording you have a lot of storage to work with. I cleared out a 1TB hard drive and recorded my entire run onto that, the entire recording is around 250GB of footage but this number is subject to differ from person to person depending on what quality their recording in.
Breaks: From my run and what I was able to figure out, this run will never be shorter than 30 hours. I would never recommend anyone to do this run in 1 sitting, so I think it would be smart to allow the runners to start with 10 hours of break (8 hours to get a healthy amount of sleep, 2 hours to do things like eat, self care etc). Whatever mods want to do regarding after said 10 hours is up to them, I think I took around 20 hours of break across the entire run (still figuring that out and will have an exact number once I’ve went through the VOD). Once again, the mods should have control and have say over what they think the break system should be and have that be final, but I’m just dropping my thoughts because none of us wants anyone to be physically/mentally ill due to performing this speedrun.
5,000 KM Drove sticker: This is arguably the most deceptive sticker in the entire run. My advice for anyone who wants to do this run is to just automate the process and take breaks when you’re automating said process (keep the timer on during said breaks of course, but automating this for an hour or two in between parts of the run is a good idea). Make sure you have either your left stick or right stick rubber banded to constantly be going in one direction otherwise the switch will turn itself off after being AFK for too long.
Kamek Orb grinding: The most RNG based thing in the entire run is how generous Kamek feels in giving you new characters. Before I even began grinding, Kamek appeared 12 times in races during the run, out of all those 12 appearances, he only gave me a new character 1 time. The multiplayer strategy is the closest thing we have to grinding Kamek Orbs, but due to both the items extreme rarity, alongside the chance of you not getting the character you need to unlock every time. Runs will definitely vary in times and how fast they can be completed due to this, so all I can say is for people to have patience. I can’t imagine it’ll take everyone 7 hours to unlock all the Kamek Characters like I did when I was grinding this out, but this is most definitely a long and tedious process.
The Big Sticker Milestones: I’ve already discussed the 5,000KM sticker grind, but I would also like to break down the other thresholds and the easiest way to grind these out, both as a collective and for each of them individually -
5000 KM, 30K Tricks, 30K Coins, 500 Races: The easiest way to grind all of these together is by going in VS Race and doing 32 races with Easy CPU on Koopa Troopa Beach. Go wide for the coins and spam items to keep getting the coin item, as all coins get counted towards the coin counter even after you’ve collected 20 coins. A race of KTB doing this should take 2 minutes give or take.
30K Tricks: Assuming this glitch doesn’t get patched out, there is a way to stay in the air for a ridiculous amount of time in free roam, discovered in the tweet below. There is a way for you to infinitely stay in the air, but the setup for this glitch to begin with is extremely precise so I’d just try to get as much air time as you can and spam shake tricks.
30K Coins: There are two 100 coin piles in free roam very close to where you spawn in when you select going to Sky High Sundae & Boo Cinema. Once you’ve collected both stacks, quit the game so they respawn and repeat the process.
200KM Glided: My friend Tyler found that the easiest glider to get to is in Acorn Heights. There might be a better one found soon but for now, the self named “TMoney Strat” is probably the best way to farm this. When you spawn into Acorn Heights drive foward until the split path and take the left to where the ? panel is. Drive off that glider, land, and repeat the process.
500 Races: I can’t confirm this myself but from what I’ve heard, playing Balloon battles and forcing yourself to die is the fastest way to farm this if you only want to farm the races.
Expectations for how fast this run can get: This is the final thing I’ll talk about but keep it brief as I know I’ll probably get proven wrong way down the line. Sub 30 hours is impossible, I think every run that’s done will be 30+ hours. A run would require phenomenal RNG & insane free roam routing even for the likes of a run around the 35 hour mark so for right now, I think runs can be expected to take around 40 hours. Sub 50 is absolutely doable, Sub 40 is gonna be really hard to achieve and anything lower than that is gonna take an insane amount of routing & planning. Anyways, ramble done, cheers for reading
Works the same as the Flash version's timer. (Subtract time after the level from time before the level)
If you mean an IL timer, coppersalts is considering adding that to HTML5b in the future too.
I might have to ask site staff for that unfortunately, same with changing the name
I'll fix it when I update the leaderboards (like with the spreadsheet categories), it just needs line breaks.
I know, but I wasn't the one who submitted the game. We'll have to contact the site admins to change it.
Yes, they were already on the spreadsheet. I'll add it when I set up the categories.
The leaderboards have been split now. The leaderboards have been split between Legacy and Current versions. Choose Current if you are playing on the version after mini-bosses were added, and if not, choose Legacy. Current version runs must beat all the mini-bosses in the category.
Alright, any other objections or comments?
If not we'll split the leaderboards on June 1st, the 2.5 year anniversary.
I asked about it in the Discord last December but no one replied.
How about we split the full game categories between Legacy and Current version?
Also some of the levels changed so I'm not sure if current version is a net time loss. Would some levels need a leaderboard split too? Since El Pix got changed.
Edit June 1, 2024: El Pix looks the same time, just with more hazards
@Miggle13 We voted it is legal now. However we are undecided on how to show it on the leaderboards yet. If you do run on HTML5b you should say it in the description.
What a legendary run, star of a viral video too :)

Some of these runs haven’t been retimed exactly.

On November 16th, 2018, a rule change made all subsequent runs get timed by RTA instead of IGT because of reset exploit.
In September-October 2018 I didn’t own a computer and didn’t record my runs yet, but recorded my times. As they were unrecorded, they have no proof for RTA, so I would not count them as verified runs, but they can be a side note in the category’s history. I did take a level select screenshot from my 30:48 with its in-game time. AntLadders’s 11:34 wasn’t recorded as he was derusting.

Yes, it is being used in level and full-game speedruns.
Note that we are not running speedrun.com leaderboards for the HTML ports yet.
