Yep, totally fine. I've seen this in a run before as well. No idea.

I was watching the new TAS before it was taken down and there was an interesting glitch. If you threw an apple at the exact right moment, you could interrupt the fruit merchant before he did his slashes. It's pretty tricky and I tried it in my run just before and got it something like 4/6 times but I had to get extra apples for the glitch (so I'd have some at the end of the run for other skips) and it gave me a net loss. Unfortunately I know of nowhere where there are apples that do not take time, as none are in the autoscroller level. Good trick though.

I encountered the glitch off of a regular non-enemy pot:

If you have any recordings of those moments that would be great but it sounds like they're relics of a time long past. The TAS creator said the new video is coming soon.

BootlegPickle7 years ago

Okay, I made a brief video on it, (not that I have any specialized knowledge) and put it in the guides section.

BootlegPickle7 years ago

Just in case there were some other ones I didn't spot.

BootlegPickle7 years ago

That's okay, as long as the requirement is "1HP, get hit with staff", that's all I need to know. Inner workings would be good but are unimportant.

BootlegPickle7 years ago

I also wonder what's up with that TAS (the one that you commented on YouTube) as it says obsoleted but I can't find the new one.

BootlegPickle7 years ago

Oh that's a shame. Are you really sure you can do it on any of them? I had suspected it might have something to do with the floating platforms as you become incapable of grabbing them while in the glitch.

Hello friends,

in the record run, Jafar is immediately defeated when his staff hits Aladdin, could someone explain how this works?

Cheers, Jesse

Hello friends,

I was wondering if there was some setup or guide for the "air walking" glitch observed in 4-1.

Cheers, Jesse.

Yeah krzy is pretty impressive, he can also produce one off carts if you have games with atrocious mappers like Taiwanese/Russian bootlegs which are currently not supported, my guess is something to do with storage. The 81.5% he mentions is quite reasonable for most consumers and it's far far cheaper than the alternatives.

GV-USB2 is $30, friend.

Unfortunately the level select is due to a cheat being enabled in the multicart. It is somewhat peculiar that this is the case but the game can actually be easily patched and this removed if you want to try and work out some actual any% strats though I doubt there would be any real strats. As an aside, almost all the bad physics in the game can be patched. Mario's bad running up slopes, losing max speed when jumping and even his rate of acceleration can all be corrected to behave properly. Some of these cheats are on the bootleg wiki: http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Super_Mario_World_(Famicom)

These have been implemented in the hack (plus a graphical update): https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3467/

Though of course, these modifications would make the game noncomparable and should be placed under a misc category. But would be nice if you actually want to play the game.

While Dendy and Pegasus, the two most popular famiclones run at a peculiar NTSC with forced 50Hz, most famiclones do not. The games themselves work natively on Famicoms. Also, there is no standard famiclone. Several clones have different graphical chipsets and architecture. Some are NOACs that don't run even these games. Unfortunately some clone carts cannot be played on a standard Famicom but this is solely because various wires are bodged together because most clones use bad mechanism to read carts. Dumping such games, they will then work natively with no issue on Famicoms.

Wait, there are other glitches?

BootlegPickle7 years ago

Yeah the text is verbose but the video should be terse. Exciting stuff, hope to see your runs soon.

Hello friends,

while trying to learn this beautiful game, I encountered a glitch that I have dubbed "Flying Donkey Glitch" and it can be seen at just after t=0:42 in the following video:

I kept all footage up to it in case it had something to do with it.

The glitch appears to have had something to do with the jumping enemy itself, but I have not yet replicated it, so I thought I would post it here.

Happy hunting!

Hello,

it is not stated in the rules where timing begins and ends. I would think the frame after you select new game and the frame after fanfare starts on King K Rool. It appears all times on the leaderboards use this convention except Diegolazor4 who begins his timer at fade out of menu leading to a half second difference in times (which would also put him at 16:03 due to his timer being at 16:02.74 at final split unless someone did a frame count on the run).

Cheers, Jesse

Hello, I was wondering why this game was listed as a fan game as it isn't. It was developed by Hummer Team and published by JY Company. It had an official release. It was not a legitimate release but it isn't just some fan ROM or something. You wouldn't call a Luis Vitton bag a fanbag of Louis Vuitton.

The title of the game is also erroneous, it should be Donkey Kong 4 or Donkey Kong 4 Country, the country designation was only on a later release and the title was originally Donkey Kong 4 only as evidenced by its original carts: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/bootleggames/images/4/4c/JY013.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130508204726

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/bootleggames/images/4/4c/JY013.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20130508204726

and only the third release has country in it, below the title: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/bootleggames/images/a/a8/DKC4.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20120208195014

the Chinese name is 大金剛4, Dà jīngāng 4 which translates to King Kong 4, 大金剛 being the Chinese localisation for Donkey Kong.
