Greetings fellow Speedrunners,

I'm totally new to Speedrunning and I want to start with this Game :) My Aim is to do a Any% Glitchless Run for the beginning, because my Aim is to do any Games, I speedrun, Glitchless.

So, to start I'm asking for your Help :) What is a good Way to start a Pokemon Red/Blue Speedrun? I'm getting one of the recommended Emulators and the respecting ROM (which one should I take? Red or Blue or doesn't that matter which one?). The Next Step would be, to watch a Speedrun (WR or such) and then do a Casual Run by myself. A list would look like that:

• Getting everything setup
• Watching Runs / Making notes
• Do Casual Runs
• Do Speedrun

I got one Question: Is there only a "One-Segment" Run or can I also do Segmented Runs? Or doesn't that work because the Timer used is the Ingame Timer?

Hi ph1l. Welcome to speedrunning. The best way to get help for Pokemon speedrunning is to visit http://www.pokemonspeedruns.com/. We also have a forum there and a wiki for information.

To get started in speedrunning Pokemon Red/Blue, just start with Pokemon Red. It is mainly for the fact that Nidoran Male is easier to get in Red instead of Blue. For the emulator, Gambatte or BGB will work. VBA for Gameboy or Gameboy Color is considered banned in most communities. Also I recommend getting the Red Helper. As for the one segment, it means you cannot reset in the middle of the run when you submit your your run. I recommend save and resets for the first runs until you get conformable. We mainly time from the in-game timer and the run is measured at the end in the time displayed in the hall of fame.
