How is Need for Speed 2 Special Edition Different Compared to Need for Speed 2?
The positives: -3 extra cars: Ferrari 355F1, Ford Mustang Mach 3 and ItalDesign Nazca C2. -3 new bonus cars to unlock in tournament. -1 extra track, the Last Resort. -Each car has its own set of colours, even black which was unavailable in NFS2. -Some new cheat codes. -An extra racing style, Wild. -Able to drive tracks backwards and mirrored -Personal statistics. -Slightly improved graphics in software mode. -3dfx Support. (more info about that below) -A black McLaren! -Maybe a few other things, but they ain’t that important
The negatives: -You can race against up to 7 cars, rather than 11 in NFS2 in a single race. I think this is the biggest letdown. It is always a lot more fun racing against more cars. It may not seem like a lot to you, but to me it is enough to question whether or not this game is better than NFS2. -You can’t choose any colour car you want anymore! -No in-car view on 3dfx mode, I wonder why? -The same bonus track to unlock in Knockout.
PSX version (We work on it. Not Final)
All what we know, the PSX copy is the normal version, not the SE version. And the PSX copy has always a different coding engine.
Missing -> -3 new bonus cars -3 extra cars -1 extra track, the Last Resort. -An extra racing style, Wild. -Some new cheat codes. (the PSX copy use passwords)
The idea for the SE version was the input option of the 3dfx Voodoo graphic cards for PC systems, created from EA Seattle. Include SVGA options. It is a improved coding engine. The SE version was only released for the PC system, on CD-Rom. Not for PSX. It was also released in the USA Need For Speed Collection 2003 include NFS2,3,4,Porsche,HP2 on CD-Rom. In germany there was also released single CD-Roms when you had buy a Voodoo graphic card.
Cars are now separated by a filter that you can use to only display specific cars. This allowed you to filter out FZR runs if you do not wish to see them and only want to compete with F50, F1, GT90, etc. runs.
Happy hunting!
