Platform Discrepancies

In the Resources page, I link both an HTML5 version and a flash version of Civiballs. These versions have a physics discrepancy that make tricks incompatible with each other. The plainest way to see this is China 6. The default strategy is to cut the red ball into the crossbow, then while that is settling cut the yellow ball. Once red is settled, shoot the red ball then cut the green to drop it into the green vase. The red then rolls across the top, falls down onto yellow, sending yellow and red into their own vases ending the level. This default strategy works on the Flash version of the game, but in the HTML5 version, yellow doesn't land in the vase unless it bounces into the red ball on its way down.

This manifests into some levels that are much faster, for example Egypt 3 has a strategy in Flash where you cut red and green immediately after each other and red bounces off the cannon into the vase, meaning you only wait for a single cannon shot rather than the two required in the HTML5 version. Similar improvements are found in Egypt 7, Greece 7, China 7 and 10, and likely more. I plan on making IL runs to demonstrate these differences in the coming months.

For this reason, I request a platform indicator to distinguish between HTML5 and Flash. I think these discrepancies are too small to have a separate leaderboard, but significant enough to note. Thoughts?

I for one agree. Is there an HTML5 version of Civiballs Xmas? Since I mod that one, I can set the HTML5 sub-categories there earlier. That being if Civiballs Xmas has significant stuff that would need a sub-category.

I’m sure that there’s an HTML5 port existing for Civiballs Xmas but I can’t find a link to any (tho I recommend that one of you asks to the mods of the Speedrun page for the game to update the tool section by adding one), but for the time I’m writing this comment I recommend that you use BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint since the app has a port for the game taken from Flash. (If Flashpoint is allowed to be used)

I use flashpoint and am a mod for Civiballs Xmas and Multiple Civiballs games.

  1. Thanks for confirming that information
  2. I found an HTML5 port for the three games yesterday on Y8’s website, I haven’t tried the Xmas port but the port for the first game seems alr, as for the second game there’s most likely a bug with physics in the 10th Inca level.
