It depends on what pet is used, but the pet that helps a lot in large groups is a pet with splash damage, like the lion.

Healing pets have no use whatsoever, since you want to get all of the enemies out as soon as possible. Save your pet abilities to when you need them, more specifically, save the pets for the boss.
