If we cannot define it in game, then we as the community would have to make it up and say what would qualify as 100%, all abilities, all tapes being collected, maybe touching every paint thing, etc.

I can add a 100% category if you want, just please do a run beforehand and post it here. Actually we should probably define what 100% would require, such as collection all the tapes, etc.

Hey, so just a few things I'd like to respond on, I really don't have any issue with any category being added as long as a run has been done for it. I just don't want to add a bunch of tabs and categories with no runs on them. So if you do a run in a particular category, feel free to let me or pods know what it should be categorized as, and then we can set that up.

As far as definitions, yeah we would need to sort out how to categorize each ruleset, glitchless seems straight forward, however other games have at times allowed for minor things like clipping through an object due to movement not being considered a glitch.

And the rest seem rather straight forward, just have to define what is a dungeon.

Watching runs lately and taking part in this conversation, I think that's a great idea. Would be fun for folks, and maybe I might come out of retirement to mess around with LR again if this happens. Less RNG, more runs being finished, and races would be more realistic and close.

Not sure if these have been found, I noticed a couple Atrium of Greed skips in the other thread, this method should be faster.

And I managed to find this skip to the first encounter of Wrath.

I'll be looking for more if I find anything I'll add it.

So are you talking about the skip where you use the camel and jump up to get on the ship? That skip right, and you use the rock sort of? I can be honest that it is one of the harder skips to get, it's precise with the position and getting the game to push you up, so it may not be a frame issue or patch or anything.. maybe keep trying, 'cuz it does take some practice, but also a bit of luck to get it to launch you. The other skip a little bit later is also very hard to do, where you try to catch an invisible ledge launch in Laotan I think it's called, and yeah that is really annoying as well.

I haven't played in awhile, so I am bad with names and places, lol. I am just trying to connect the name to the skip you are trying, plus we have a bunch of skips back to back in that early-mid game area, so yeah.

So one issue is it could be tied to frames. I found this was an issue with a lot of tricks in another game I spent a lot of time on, Fe, a lot of tricks were tied to frames, and because console is locked at 30 or 60, it's a problem. Since I've only played Shiness on PC, I can't speak to it directly, but I assume that may be related to it. While it sucks to re-buy a game, Shiness is 8.99 on steam summer sale, maybe it's worth grabbing if you plan to run the game.

Ok the game runs at 60 on pc, I haven't played for a few months, so it should work, I could try it on 30 to see, I assume console is at 30 only?

Sadly, a lot of pc games pause the timer for loads, I disagree with this, because this is not an RTA, the argument that people do this for fairness is not an argument to say it's still an RTA, the real time may still be calculated, but if you're not counting the real time it takes the player from start to finish, then that timing is incorrect, and no longer RTA. Loads should be included, it doesn't matter if they vary, it's part of the game.

You are under no obligation to share anything, it's a video game, lol? A lot of posts seemingly like to point to how it hurts the community, or yourself by holding back information on a skip, route change, etc. I disagree, because a lot of posts make an assumption that is predicated on the idea that someone better than you is going to beat you anyways. This is a false notion, while in some games this may be true, what if the skip or discovery shifts the paradigm of the game that may take away the advantage of the current wr holder? In other words, the current wr holder is really optimal at the current route, but the new route changes takes out some portion of the run that person optimized. Now they struggle to do the new skip well, you do it better, you get optimal at the run, post the time and take wr, and then they struggle for awhile to wr over you. Or you could already be a runner and find something, then this allows you to wr for free, but you still push for a better time with it and make it harder, at least for awhile.

So the assumption that you are at a disadvantage finding a new skip and then getting wr with it, is seemingly incorrect to assume in all cases. Yes, being optimal and doing it better is going to be the best option to maintain wr in the long run, but you also assume the top runner is better than the person who finds the skip, which may or may not be the case at all times. If I was running a game, close to the top time, or shifting wr between myself and another runner, then I find something that gives me free time save, and free wr, of course I would optimize and then post wr with it. It may then take the other runner quite some time to grind, or push for wr again.

Or they get turned off by it, bored, and the trick is annoying to execute, and it pushes them out of the run that used to be fun and competitive for them. This also happens, sometimes people get turned off, and they quit. People make a lot of assumptions that you're at a disadvantage, I think that's simply not always true.

I would say if you find something and don't share it, more power to you. Way too many people make this sweeping assumption you need to share to help advance the game, almost as if it's expected of you. Like people are entitled to your finds, lol no. If I want to share, I will, if I don't, that's up to me, not you. Community is good, I agree, but it's also a competition, and if I have an advantage, why wouldn't I take advantage of that advantage? Giving over a strat or a find is like telling an NFL team to give over their playbook to the opposing team every game, so they can prepare for the play calls, lol?

That being said, not everything people don't share is done with any intent, I've ran games and found things during runs or practice and didn't think to say anything about it, didn't seem important, was a small thing in my head, or whatever. Sometimes you just gotta figure stuff out on your own and have your own style as well. People expect handouts, handouts won't make you good, just do runs and practice.

Hey Zimmy, or anyone else, I just had some questions for this game. I have been thinking of picking it up as a speed run potentially, but I also noticed the game is getting a re-release in about a week, so I have been holding off until the newer release drops.

However, I was curious if there was notes for the run, (if not that's ok, things may change, and/or I can just watch the run and make my own) and also I did skip around the vod a few times and noticed you spend a little over an hour farming and creating items, and was wondering if this is really needed? I notice this game requires elements to use certain abilities, so I assume you seem to use fire based attacks in the late/end game.

Does not doing the farm simply make it slower? Is the trade off better to not farm, even if fights take longer, would it still be faster than doing the farm to make them faster?

Or is it more of a risk you will die, and enemies are too hard at the point?

All in all I hope new life comes into this game, I noticed some negative reviews around it, and I hope people look into it more with the re-release, thanks!

That can certainly be considered and done, would probably have to either to a different leaderboard in and of itself, or add it here. But isn't A Kings Tale a different game than FF XV? Just in the same universe?

Some new stuff:

When you run to Tam's Wagon, normally we would run forward and grab the stone on the left and continue to Gloam Thicket, however I tested doubling back and running down the hill behind Tam's Wagon, and running across to Gloam Thicket, it saves about ten seconds this way. There is also a cave that is discovered called Lucky Mine, which will compensate the exp in part over not getting the stone.

One could decide to get the stone later during the Windstone quest, but it's probably going to be a time loss.

Also I have toyed with the concept of killing the Fae meditating around the tree in the cradle of summer vs using our Fate on the mob to the right of the main path after Emaire. 1. this would be faster, 2. we would probably have the Fate meter full, 3. the exp amount needs to be tested, and drops from the Fae would not happen, or provide Fate? I am not fully sure. Can someone confirm like 6oliath?

There is also a stone in the center of the area we never get which could also provide exp here, we usually only grab 2, one off the ledge, and one in front of Urul-Tusk, this could also boost exp if the Fae provide less than the normal way. Or just provide more exp period.

The draw back is the Windstone order, you wouldn't have fate for Gloamthicket, so you would probably want to do Tam's Wagon, then Gloamthicket, pop fate, then do Helmguard and Emaire like normal for fate order, afaik it should work, and you can kill mobs otw at Tam's for a little more fate fill if you feel the need.

Okay, I just did some movement tech testing based around Mel Senshir and running through to Alfar Camp and Foe's Hearth. So I ran through the normal route with Foe's Hearth first, then going to Alfar Camp to clean up the quest with the Tuatha towers, the timing for this came out to be about, 6:00 - 6:16, I was delayed on a teleport due to enemies, and did get hit once by a bog to slow my movement, so take this with a grain of salt, plus loads and fast travel movement, mouse over controller. I hit my split end when I went in the door at Foe's Hearth, time started at movement in Mel Senshir.

Next I time the alternative movement I saw 6oliath do, with running to Alfar Camp backwards, I ran to Alfar, then to Balor's Crossing, up to the Tuatha tower, fast travel back to Alfar, do the two Tuatha towers as normal, then fast travel to Mel Senshir and run to Foe's Hearth to finish the quest. This took me about 5:46, give or take. I think the argument can be made that even on a good day with the normal movement, the back way is faster, even if only 15-20 seconds saved.

The only other test would be running backwards from Balor's Crossing to Foe's Hearth, I just did a quick test, normal way of Mel > Foe's is 1:19, from Balor's > Foe's is 1:28.. so going from Mel > Foe's is still faster. Ideally you don't want to fast travel to Mel Senshir twice, because you load inside and have to run out. So you wouldn't want to run to Foe's Hearth first, then back to Mel and then to Alfar Camp.

Alright, the other movement tech we can work on is stuff in early parts of the run like we were talking about on stream.

Again, this is not adding in cutscenes, fights, and other impacts, this timing was trying to be as pure as possible with movement timing only, subtracting anything else. I also made sure to run to basically where the towers were and teleport out in each of the 3 tower locations too, just to be accurate.

I figured this would be a good spot to ask questions as well. I wanted to throw this out to 6oliath, EagleLiver, Susan or anybody who knows about KOA in general.

I am wondering if there are places to find rare or unique weapons just like Kellerac's sword. I tried looking up daggers and a lot of information was not clear, or many said you can find things as random drops from chests or enemies, which cannot be relied on for a speed run.

The other question is mostly in relation to the dagger route, if we could craft or simply purchase better daggers instead of crafting the Fine Azurite ones?

We want the best stats/results, and we only use 3 daggers overall in the route.. though I am wondering for that early to mid-game range if there is a better option anybody is aware of at all?
