Sweet run!

As I posted this, I see there is a Smash-dedicated speedrunning Discord server already. Oops!

Hey there, I run a Melee-dedicated Discord server at https://discord.gg/melee and I have a speedrunning channel.

I'm not aware of any other Melee speedrunning-dedicated Discord servers out there, so I figured linking to this one is better than nothing.

I'd like to stress test routes and stuff over voice chat with anyone who's willing, for example.

Would mods consider adding the Discord to Category Extensions and the main Melee Speedrun.com page?

Setting your handicap and opponent's handicap is brilliant! I wonder if doing a human opponent instead of a CPU would be better.

Thanks for clarifying, @SukeSJ. Completely makes sense. I guess the goal here is I think it would be good to see unlocking all characters + characters and stages being on the main game, since it's fairly straightforward and certainly more accessible than the "All Trophies" category that is currently on the main page.

I'd also like to add that playing on original hardware makes the attempts more notable also. But of course, the decision will completely be up to you and the other moderators.

Could there be a speedrun category for defeating all enemies or getting all Pikmin in the Pikmin demo?

The full disc has the demos of Melee and Pikmin on it.

I'd love to run this. Any chances of it? I know it's pretty obscure.

@SukeSJ I guess what I mean is, since these categories are fairly new, I'd love the non-Emulator ones to be listed on the main game category, since it doesn't require any kind of emulations / Gecko Codes / etc. The runs that Arahpthos and I ran were on console, no cheats used at all. And the runs didn't exist over a year ago, since I initiated the first run on my birthday last year in November!

@SukeSJ amazing, thank you so much! Do you know why the Console tab doesn't show by default? It currently shows an empty Emulator category for Characters + Stages, any way Console could be default?

Edit: I don't know what the etiquette on this is, but it is possible to move the Console runs to the main Melee category, and keep the Emulator runs on the Extensions one? Seems like that would make more sense to me!

@SukeSJ I appreciate that - otherwise it feels like @Arahpthos and I got unnecessarily punished for going out of our way to play and capture on console. However, I'm willing to hear about any opposition!

Wow, @Nami. 40 minutes is significant! A current-version-Slippi-specific unlock all characters run would be WILDLY fast lol.

Absolutely they are, since not only are there outside-of-Melee codes active (for example, frozen Pokemon Stadium), but Slippi also optimizes the loading times of Melee, too.

While we're on this topic, is using Emulation unfair since it takes less time to load matches? Since it's a VS. match load-heavy run, it seems like either definitions should be setup for what constitutes an acceptable set of emulation properties/settings, or make it console-only.

I'm not saying one way or the other - just wanted raise the question.

Birdy Beach skip has not been patched, I used it to get the current Any% world record.

Can I ask a moderator why the PC / Switch tabs were added to the top? There's so few runners in the switch category, I don't understand why they're split for Any%. The other categories make more sense, though.

@pokemonmaster, I have a question for you. Since @Arahpthos has also done the run for both all characters and all characters + stages, does that deem it worthy enough to add to the main SSBM category instead of extensions? I noticed unlock all trophies is in the main category with two leaderboard posts.

Thank you! Also, I'm noticing on that category extension, it says Character: "Dr. Mario." This is not relevant, can the character section be removed from the "All characters" and "all characters + stages" category?

Something I wanted to mention, the "All stages" category is redundant with the "All stages + characters" since getting all of the characters is a requirement to unlock Flat Zone (via Game & Watch) and unlock all Event matches, and thus unlock Final Destination. @Pokemonmaster888
