Since not everyone is in the SF discord channel, I am posting the new ruleset here. As it stands, we are working on adding either a new option/category or a category extension to allow emulator runs. While we are waiting for approval from the SR.com side, please adhere to the rules as follows for emulator runs and hold off on submissions for now.
Please be sure to join the Discord channel for the most up-to-date discussions.
"PLEASE PAY ATTENTION AND READ ALL THE SETTINGS TO MAKE SURE YOUR RUN IS ACCEPTABLE FOR THE LEADERBOARD.
- Snes9x version 1.60+ is the only acceptable emulator allowed for this run.
- Emulator can be downloaded https://www.snes9x.com/downloads.php
- Third party software like Retroarch cannot be used to run the Snes9x Cores.
- Starfox USA Revision 1.2 is the only accepted Rom allowed for this speedrun.
- SUPERFX SPEED MUST BE SET TO (75%) This can be changed here (Emulation/Settings)
- Emulator or front-end specific functionality is banned (e.g. save states, binding multiple keys, run-ahead, etc).
- All runs must start with a reset and be VISIBLE IN YOUR RECORDING. You cannot start the run from a save state.
- Input display must be turned on and VISIBLE IN YOUR RECORDING throughout the duration of the run. (Press , to turn on)
- FPS must be displayed for the duration of the run and be VISIBLE IN YOUR RECORDING at all times. (Video/Show Frame Rate)
Following completion of the run after the Boss % screen is displayed please show the following settings. There are 2 ways to have the settings show on OBS. If doing a window capture you need to add a separate window capture for the information screens. The other way is to do a display capture instead which will show anything visible on your screen.
- Rom information (File/ROM Information)
- Emulation settings (Emulation/Settings) FX Speed must be set to (75%)
- Input configuration (Input/Input Configuration)
- Emulator Information (Help/About)"
Updating this to include timing for the SNES Classic and Switch Online versions
For SNES Classic, on all routes/paths, a delayed timer should be set to -33 seconds.
For Switch Online, on all routes/paths, a delayed timer should be set to -34.25 seconds.
I'm down for a new category, as I was thinking about doing something like this myself.
I do suggest the reset point be after Andross fades away to black at the end of the boss montage, or after the percentage screen fades away before the boss montage starts, and end time be like all other runs, when you lose control of your arwing after defeating Andross.
The category name could be something like All Routes rather than all levels since we're not completing OOTD or Black Hole, but we can discuss that.
Just my two cents.
I'll basically echo what Lylat and Fling have said. As some games don't even have more than ten times on the leaderboards (¤cough¤ SNES Star Fox games ¤cough¤), it would be ideal to administer a time requirement per game/category rather than a 'top 10' or whatever.
