Money must be spent very wisely and taxes might even have to go up a tad bit to keep the overall time down. I might try a few practice runs at it and see how long it takes. There are a few things I have been wanting to test and this category should be perfect for doing so.
I have been granted moderator powers for this game. Thus, I have added a bunch of new categories that people are currently running, and I wish to explain them all here. First of all, running this game is very different than running most any other game. Vastly different strategies are used for the categories. 100-500K, and possibly 600K can be achieved relatively quickly with the speedbuilding method that Mr.K and Karmamachine use in their runs. However, 700K and up require strategy which takes a much longer amount of time to build, and most certainly has to utilize the debug code.
100K-Maximum Population: All of these categories have specific rule sets and must be single segment runs.
500K/600K Glitchless: This will be the goal for a glitchless game, meaning no type of cheats or glitches are allowed, and it must be a single segment run. This will be a lengthy run should anyone attempt to tackle it as it will be a long time before enough money is made to reach 500K. As an added challenge, I have also added 600K, as it is possible to do, but will require optimized strategies and luck.
Maximum Population Frame Skip: The only rule for this category is no zone stacking. It does not have to be a single segment run either, as the current video cannot verify it was a single segment run. While the run has not been submitted, I have found a video which shows a total of 956,160 population, and clearly used the frame skip as the year is 2108 in game. There is no evidence of zone stacking. The video is linked here:
Maximum Population Zone Stacking: There are no rules for this category, anything goes. The highest total I could find in a video, that utilizes zone stacking is 1,102,240, and that video is linked here:
Thank you I will do so in the future. The matter has been resolved quickly.
Desperately need a new mod for this game...
I did a side by side broadcast on my twitch awhile back, VBA on one side, Gambatte on the other. They ran the same over about a 20 minute broadcast. If there is a difference, I have yet to see it. If anyone could please send me a link to some proof of this claim I would be thankful.
Once I see another run on Gambatte submitted, I will make a new category for it. I have one run on a gambatte emulator so Im not a complete totalitarian, I am open to compromise. :D
Its like asking a baker to make a cake he has no ingredients for, or raising a ton of money for a race that only 3 people will show up for. I want to make categories that people are actually running for the game. I have confirmed that SGB and GBP do indeed run at different frame rates, so, a new category will be made for it.
So please, someone submit a run! Id love for more people to run this game! The whole point of me even creating a leaderboard for the game was for the community to become active!
And to be brutally honest, I feel that the current times I have for VBA, are better than most could do on a Gambatte or Gameboy Player. SGB, not so much, as it runs faster. I am waiting for someone, anyone, to prove me wrong, please do! :D
I have runs submitted, but weeks have passed now and no verification. I believe I have WRs in at least 4 current categories, including max population which is not a category yet.
We need an active moderator here, I mod several other games and check in each day. My latest run is here just in case anyone claims I am crying foul.
As a moderator here, I have had to implement several new categories due to console/handheld differences. The video seen here is an example of just how much of a difference this makes over longer periods of time. I feel this issue should be addressed more concerning speed running. Many mods here are inactive and lazy! Every second matters!
Anyone else feel me here?
I have confirmed GBP and SGB run at different frame rates. I have a Gameboy Player and will be running this game on it soon. A new category will have to be added for GBP. I was able to confirm this via this video here:
Because seeing as I am pretty much the only one running this game, I play on VBA, and I am the only one taking the time to make these categories, therefore it is my decision. When someone begins to contribute their own speedruns for the game here, I will add new categories as needed.
GBP runs at the same frame rate as SGB I am pretty sure.
I see there is another thread here asking for extra categories for the difficulty. I have a difficult run id like to post as well. Seems this game needs a new mod here! I have moderator experience with other games, I will add the new categories ASAP if I am added as a moderator, I am active pretty much every day.
Any tips? I know the game well. My party will be 3 Fi/Rm or 2 Fi/Wm/Rm.
We should still do this however. I have done a few runs now under a specific category I call Nightmare %, and feel is very challenging and could be fun for the experienced runners. Id love to see some competitive randomizer spirit. I could round up a few runners I am sure, Darkwing, KMAC, Eunos, maybe even lack attack now that he has the WR for 1Q. I have mod experience here at speedrun, I could add a specific category or discuss it further with Polk or Lack.
Let me know guys, I think this could be a good thing. We just need maybe one or two randomizer categories, no more. Too many will get cluttered and be too much work.
I actually did a video with side by side comparison of VBA vs Gambatte. If there was a big difference, I was not able to see it in about 30 minutes of comparing. Therefore I have created separate categories for the emulator of the runners choice. This was by popular demand. I have a run with Gambatte I will be adding eventually as well.
The main reason being the difference in framerates of the VBA and SGB (Super Gameboy), which goes much faster than an emulator. I also displayed this during a past broadcast, showing the SGB moving faster than the VBA. So it really just made more sense to add new categories depending upon the console.
Good point, finding an agreed upon category for an overall run would be challenging.
Seeing as its all random, should just have a 100% and Any%?
The Zelda Randomizer is growing in popularity among speedrunners. Should there be a new category added for first and second quest randomizer speedruns? I think we should, it will generate more activity for the game!
Run was played on Super Game Boy, which has an increased frame rate compared to VBA or other handheld consoles such as GB, GBC, GBA and GBP. I have updated the leader board to reflect this. Thank you for the help!
