Heya. Played SL for the first time recently and was messing around and found some new exploits that should save you folks some significant time, like maybe a full minute or more. I'm not really interested in grinding out runs myself.
First up running through funtime auditorium on night 3. Just hold shift and mash w and you should avoid all of foxy's killing intervals. Dunno if it's 100% consistent but I've tried it several times and it worked every time.
Also sort of works in Ballora's room on night 2, but it's definitely not 100% consistent there. There are times when you still need to stop. I haven't tested enough to know exactly when it is and is not safe.
I have not tested this for heading to the scooping room on night 5, but maybe it works there too?
I don't have a recording of this other exploit, and it may have been a fluke anyway. During the funtime freddy section on night 2 I tried alternating between ctrl+s and space rapidly while pressing the power buttons. Idea being you could use the audio lure more frequently. Tried a couple times and was able to wind about 3.5 to 4 buttons before freddy's attack. Maybe a fluke, or maybe it really dose slow him down a bit?
Anyway good luck and have fun.
Hi everybody! I started running yesterday, and I'm loving it. Current PB is 12:33, and looking forward to bringing that lower and lower.
A few questions: Do you folks have a discord server?
How much time does curry kill save? Is it only faster if you get both kills? Best I've been able to do is 1 kill. At that point is it even worth it?
I don't understand the swallow trick. So you're supposed to spit an enemy, and then immediately press down to also store the swallow? How quickly do you have to do this? I've sometimes gotten the spit and then been fast enough to get the swallow animation/sfx, but it doesn't seem to do anything? I'm really confused.
Is there a known way to manipulate rng in your favor? Seems like you can lose a great run just because Kracko or Dedede decide not to cooperate. So it just comes down to running over and over and over until you happen to get the rng to work for you?
Thank you!
How does it stack up against PC? I tried the Wii U version last year and it was unoptimized in a strange way. Very very bad for speedrunning.
Thanks for posting! We've actually known about this for a while now. It was actually used in a few places to completely reroute 100% (that nobody runs). It can also be used to skip the Sentinel (only in 100%) which shaves off a good 30 seconds.
Not exactly relevant to speedrunning, but I'm not sure how to get in touch with the TASing community.
Sweet, thanks!
Hey! I'm wanting to speedrun this game, but sadly Sonic and Knuckles cart is pretty hit or miss these days, I've only gotten it to work once in the last year. My Sonic the Hedgehog 3 works just fine however. It looks like you guys run the entire game though. Is there another page for just Sonic 3? I've searched and haven't been able to find anything, but there are speedrun vids on youtube that only go up to launch base. Thanks!
Stumbled upon this earlier while trying to find release date for Wii U/Xbox versions. It's a rom hack he made of the original metroid, programmed for the GBA in like 2002. He made it before Zero mission was out, which somehow makes it even more impressive. The sprites and animations are crazy good for the GBA, and you can really see his style in the art. Just like in AV the backgrounds have several different layers of parallax scrolling. It's cool to see how he took what he learned here and implemented it in AV.
Dunno if this fits the speedrun forum, but I thought you guys would be interested.
Hey, thanks for welcoming me to the "community" but I'm not really new. I've been running on and off for like 6 or 7 months now. I haven't been very social though.
Not meaning to sound like I was trying to pawn some of this stuff off on the mods. Just seeing what people think, and seeing if anyone knows more than me on these things. I'm more than willing to do any of this stuff, but it's going to take a long time.
I might do a video tutorial any way, maybe for some of the more advanced stuff, like how to skip the sentinel boss in 100% runs. But we'll see. Like you, I'm also getting busier, and don't want to spend all of my free time on this one game.
But I'm still hopeful we'll get more people running on the future. Just trying to think of ways to grow.
Sup. Here are some things we could look into to help grow the community. In no particular order:
-
Create video tutorials for any% and 100% runs. I'm the only person running 100% right now, so I can do that one.
-
Figure out if AV is compatible with Hourglass so we can do some TASing
-
Create a video for World of Longplays, a youtube channel with about half a million subscribers. This could drum up some interest for the game. Info for video requirements are found in the topics here: http://www.longplays.org/forum/viewforum.php?forum_id=22
-
Are you guys still doing weekly races? If so, I/more people could join in. If not, the game is only about 40 minutes long, I'm sure we can figure out a way to race with some regularity.
That's all I got. Feel free to volunteer for one of these, or suggest your own. The game is being released on several more platforms next month, which may bring a few more people into the community. I'm hopeful at least. I'm getting back into running again. So expect more submissions from me in the next few days.
Hey! I'm planning on creating video tutorials for both any% and 100% runs. Community isn't too big right now, but it'll still help for people learning in the future.
I've recently started learning 100%, and doing TAS videos, but it doesn't seem like there many people playing anymore. M2K2 seems all but dead. Seems sad.
Thanks for the reply. I suppose I could make a video of how I did it in 6% and let you be the judge of if its valid or not?
What are the rules for submitting low%? Legit, 9/10% is lowest, but ZX and I just figured out how to do it in 6% with use of major glitches and abusing the passcode tool. Does that invalidate it for speed running?
