Art Puzzle

Start with the blue L in the bottom center.

to find out which tile Stauf responded with.

Take that corresponding letter from the bottom picture, and reply with a piece of the same letter. If there are two tiles to choose from, and one of them has an apostrophe, choose that one, otherwise it doesn't matter.

No matter what stauf does you can now either win with one move, or can easily force a win with the next 2 moves.


Explanation:
If the perfect response to Stauf's choice of tile X is tile Y, then, for symmetry reasons, the perfect response to Stauf's choice tile Y is tile X, because if the first three tiles chose are L, X, Y or L, Y, X, the remaining board is the same.
Furthermore, when L is chosen first, two of the bottom left tiles are identical, as they have the same remaining neighbours, signified by the "=" sign.
Apparently Stauf chooses randomly after you pick the L, probably because he knows it doesn't matter, much like with the 4-in-a-row trilobyte cake puzzle.

Example:
Start with L. Stauf chooses the long red at the top. It's a D, so you reply with the other "D"-Tile, the white piece on the top left. No matter what Stauf chooses next, you can either win on the next move by filling everything in, or force a 3 step win.

Centaur

Choose the top piece of the small triangle in the very center of the board (P1). 
Staufs move (S1) will be one of the other two spaces in that tiny triangle. If he picks the right, as shown in this image:

complete the following line downwards into the bottom left corner with the moves P2-P4, finally extend upwards with P5. 

If he picks the left, do the same thing just mirrored.

This will always work because the AI is weird. This will always win, because if the AI tries to block a connection between two of your pieces, chose the alternative connection between those pieces, same for P5 and the bottom wall.

Furniture Puzzle

Here's the upshot:
Ignore the chairs, they are not depicted in here. Move them around as necessary for the other furniture to get into position.

Example: you start with the image in the top left corner, and you move the table down, the sofa up, and the table left. But for the sofa to move up, you need to rearrange the chairs in essentially one possible way. Then move the table left, and go to second picture.

In the second picture, to move the sofa right, you need to rearrange the chairs again. Follow these instructions. I've added numbers whenever there's ambiguity on the order.

getting the game working (and windowed mode)

This is a patched version of the exe file which fixes some crashes, thanks to Gelly. If you'd prefer to do this fix yourself then hexedit v32win.exe, search for the bytes "34 a6 44 00 74 0f 6a 01" and replace the 74 with 71 so you get "34 a6 44 00 71 0f 6a 01"

Knights Puzzle, Speedrun strat

There are conceptually two solutions to this puzzle, where the second solution is the first one played in reverse. 

I will mostly reference the top and bottom image of the following link:

The easiest way to think about this Puzzle is by drawing which tile is connected to which.
If you look at the top of Ref 2, you see the puzzle in Checkerboard form on the left, and as a graph of connected fields on the right.

Solution 1:
The solution described in Die4Ever's all puzzles solution is conceptually what you can see here, just a little optimized:

At the end of the puzzle you have 2 choices for the final 4 moves, which is worked out in the bottom of Image Ref1. It turns out the version in the run shown above is optimal.

Solution 2:
The other solution consists of going backwards through solution 1. Since solution 1 has 2 options at the end, this means solution 2 has 2 options at the beginning, worked out in the top of Ref 1.

Finally, Ref 2 compares the best paths, forwards and backwards. Both have the exact same number of clicks, animations ( = moves), and choices (which-way-should-I-go-now's). However the solution shown in the second video has 1 fewer mouse movement. This timesave of less than a second was figured out in a 90 minute session of a stream. Totally worth it.

Ref 1 & 2 are the working out of the proof that that is the fastest solution.

Map Warps Guide

In "New Game +" (NG+), which gets unlocked by beating the game (and not removing the zero-savegamefile), you can map warp. This means that when the map is up, you can click into (an area of) a room to instantly teleport there. The room needs to be unlocked, and (when you're in NG+) the skeleton hand will hold a stylus, which you need to point at the (part of) the room.
Current known/possible strats consist of minimizing the number of clicks to get to the next destination. That doesn't necessarily translate to being faster.




Counting clicks: 
In most cases you want to warp when the gamebook is already open. If it isn't (e.g. because the cutscene was an in-house cutscene) you need to open it anyway to get the next clue. If not, you have 1 click to open the gamebook if you want to warp.
If you don't want to warp, this click reverses, as you (won't) have to click to *close* the gamebook.
Click map once to open the map of the current floor. If your destination is on a different floor, you can move up a floor by pressing "map" again (or the "fastforward" button), or move down a floor by pressing the "rewind" button.
In other words, 1 click to select the map, up to 2 clicks to get to the floor and 1 final click on the room. In total anything from 2 to 4 clicks. 
Of course, you have to continue the number of clicks from the "landing postion" to your object.




Positions: 
With the exceptions of the Foyer, the 2nd floor Hallway, all rooms have one "landing position", which is the position you see when you enter the room from the Hallway/Foyer (if such a door exists).
The Chapel lands toward the torch, the Lab lands toward the operating table, Nursery and Attic land just like entering them through the door. Another exception is the Game Room, which lands facing the pool table.
(Also, the Lab is drawn as a rectangle on the map, which it certainly isn't)

Strategy:
Copmpare the number of clicks you need by walking to the number of clicks by warping. Choose whichever is smaller, in most cases it's map warping.

Mirror Puzzle

but here's the upshot:
You have a 50/50 chance of the puzzle being solvable. Check the comments in the 1st video for the maths. But the fastest way to see if it's solvable or not, is trying to solve it, and it either breaks down in the three last steps, or it doesnt.

Step 1: Find out which piece is missing. If it's 4 5 9 or 10, start by solving 1 6, then 2 7, the 3 8.
If it's 1 2 6 or 7 that's missing, start with 5 10, then 4 9, then 3 8.
If 3 or 8 are missing, solve the outsides first and end on the inside.
If the remaining 3 pieces cannot be put in the correct place at the same time, it's impossible.

How to solve 1 6:
Either:
put 6 in top left corner, then 1 to the right of it. Then slide both in from below.
Or:
put 1 in the bottom left corner, then 6 to the right of it, and slide in from above.

Same goes for 2 7 as soon as you've fixed 1 6, and the same goes mirrored for 5 10 and 4 9.

Slightly faster strat that does not require finding out which piece is missing:

at least one of the pairs 1,6 or 5,10 must be on the screen, as only one tile can be missing.
Therefore, find the pair that exists, and solve it. Repeat for the remaining 4x2 puzzle, and the final 3x2.

Mousetrap

To extend what is stated in Die4ever's all puzzles tutorial:

Short:
We use a reset-strat to reset until certain conditions are met, namely, until it's possible to encase the goal square with a ^ piece above and a v piece below (Crab https://imgur.com/a/mYIjh5Q ). If that is satisfied you have a very high likelihood of a 3 move win, by repeating that instruction with the next v or ^ you get, and then putting any piece in the other slot, forming a zig-zag path from the start to the goal.

Long:
For any randomly given game there's probably a chance between 50 and 70 % that you'll win. That requires making the perfect move at each step though, and it'll be a long game and you're still not guaranteed to win. Therefore, we reset until we have a shot at a SHORT game we can easily win.

The steps are explained in REVERSE, for reasons that will become obvious.

And we will call the piece that pops out on the left, which you have to insert, the "free piece".

Winning Move:
Given that there are no straight pieces, the shortest possible way from the center to the goal on the right is therefore either a zigzag in the shape of

1 Move Away:
The way to get to that position is by pushing any piece in a slot next to the goal that will establish that winning position. The position before that looks like one of these 2 pictures [only the 3 tiles next to the goal are important]:

2 Moves away:
There are 2 ways to get to the 1-move-away position.

Way 1: Starting with the Crab and either ^ or v as your free piece. Putting a ^ in the top position or a v in the bottom position will bring you to the shape of 1-move-away

Way 2:
Starting with the goal encased in two ^ ^ pieces and a v as a free piece, or
Starting with the goal encased in two v v pieces and a ^ as a free piece.

In this case, use your free piece to form the crab (by putting the ^ above or the v below).
Then, you're 1 move away.

3 Moves away: There are 3 ways to get to the 2-moves-away scenario, one of which is unlikely.

Way 1: The crab is there, but you don't have ^ or v as a free piece. In this case you can recycle your piece somewhere that doesn't interfere with the crab, and wait for the next piece.

Way 2: The Crab is missing one arm, and the one it's missing is your free piece:
complete the Crab!

Way 3 (unlikely): The crab is missing one arm, and you have a copy of the arm it has as a free piece. Put that copy in the other slot and hope for the third correct piece to come. Since you now need one specific piece, you have a vaguely 1/4 chance of getting that, whereas the crab can continue with 2/4 pieces. Therefore this way is less likely to succeed.

In every other situation, reset.
It is possible that Stauf will thwart your plans with his move. You cannot "undo" one of his moves by going the opposite direction of where he went. Usually this requires resetting as well.

Pente Speedrun Guide NG and NG+ UPDATED

NG: Not deterministic, but consistent.
Blind spots at the edges of the board.

Step 1: Place a fakeout piece vaguely in the middle of the board ANYWHERE.

Step 2: Place your piece vaugely at the center of one of the edges of the board (has to be on the edges)

Step 3-6: Extend that edge piece to a 5 piece line along the edge while stauf tries to build a convoluted catch-22 that you will never enter.

Since the AI moves are unpredictable to a certain extent, this Guide is essentially a decision tree.
Your First move is where Stauf's first move in NG+ is, which is the upper middle-left point in the shadowy area in the middle of the board, in other words: right here:

The AI's next move will be next to you, either diagonal or adjacent. Since the Diagonal strategies are shorter AND more consistent, the Speedrun strategy is to RESET the puzzle if the AI's first move is adjacent, and we will now assume the AI moved diagonally.
Your second move will be adjacent to your first, but not adjacent to the AI, so (possibly rotated) like this:

The AI will try to capture, by putting a piece on that line you have created: Either adjacent to his own (go to CASE 2), or not (go to CASE 1).

CASE 1: Non-adjacent
The next move is obvious: Since you don't want to get captured, you extend your line of 2 to a line of 3.
Now 2 things can happen: Either the AI will prevent you from putting a 4th into that line (go to CASE 1.2), or it won't (go to CASE 1.1).

CASE 1.1: your 4th move may be aligned with the other three, i.e. the game looks like this:

Spiders compact

Take any spider and have it run "next to" (as in a movable line away from) a spider of the other colour.
Repeat the following step 3 times:
"Mentally move backwards along the lines till you hit the next spider, and move it next to the previous one"
this should end by putting a spider in the right place
Repeat the following step 3 times (all of which end with aligning a spider to it's right colour):
"Mentally move backwards along the lines till you hit the next spider, and move it next to *the free space before* the previous one"

Train Puzzle compact version

You want to spell STAUF from FAUST, so I'll descibe shortly how to get each letter:

F:
You want to push the "F" on the top rail to the back. The only way to do that, is to take "AUST" and put it in front of the "F" in the top track, *then* taking them one by one to the bottom track, and push the "F" to the back.

U: 
You need to free the "U" from "AUST" by first taking the "A" and pushing it next to the "F", putting "UST" on the top rail (as "TSU"), carrying "A" to the bottom, putting "TS" to the bottom, and pushing "U" to the "F"

A: 
With "STA" on the bottom rail, put "ST" to the top, and push "A" next to the "U"

T: 
With "TS" at the top, take the "T" and push it via the bottom rail to the "A"

S: 
Push backwards
