Wall jump mechanics

What is the detailed mechanics for walljumping? I ask because some levels in intro I can't seem to do things consistently or at all. For example, A-03-04 doing the right wall climb in two jumps. Sometimes, no problem, othertimes way short. The other is D-00-03... how to do those 3 short jump on the right but still get the height for the button? I guess its not trivial.

I can't really help on explaining them since they just feel natural to me. But my advice would be to watch replays of levels that do similar things with the inputs turned on in the options. This helps to show you what the inputs are. D-00-03 as an example you need to not hold the jump button to ensure you get the 3 jumps with momentum. Remember that holding the jump or a directional button has effects on your velocity and that velocity management is more what does it then wall jump mechanics.

To get as much vertical speed from a wall jump as possible you have to hit it as soon as you touch the wall, in other words press the button during the buffer frames just before touching the wall. Starting a wall climb optimally is more tricky and I don't have an exact answer as to what the best possible timing is, but you want to start walljumping around halfway up the arc of a full jump.

D-00-03 in particular is really precise because you have to start with an awkwardly low jump but hit all the walljump timings so you build up enough speed to get up. I wouldn't recommend doing that strat in runs until you're going for seriously competitive times; it will kill runs and for a couple of seconds time save that's just not worth it.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know about viewing control inputs on the reply., I'll try that. I actually liked taking a break from RTA sometimes and doing the in game IL boards but I changed my steam name and now it won't let me submit times anymore :(
