i need your advices, i have an headache. I "created" the Bad Dudes speedrun for the arcade version a couple of years ago. I have never been really interested in competing with other guys, so i just created this any% category without any rules (i basically did not even know there should be rules).

A few pople started to submit runs, i was just verifying them quickly without taking care in the runs themselves. I was just happy to see guys submitting runs on that amazing game.

The problem right now is that i am looking back at the quality of their runs, reviewing them with a second eye and i noticed that for 2runs of them, the guys are not beating the game with 1 credit. You could think that it sounds fair but in fact, the runners are just kick jumping all the way to the end of the stage, taking every damage, dying multiple times. This strategy does not make any sense to me and just destroy ALL the interest in running that game, its difficulty, its tough management of the life bar, the items... everything...

So i feel stuck with that. I think i should have strictered the rules to protect the quality of this speedrun leaderboard, but right now it is just desperate to step back. Should I simply add a new rule and reject non conform rules? Or create a 1 credit category?

You can make as you wish, you are the creator of this section. The 1cc is not indicated in the rules so you can speedrun it using credits and so the death can become interesting in the speedrun. If you want 1cc speedrun add this rule, it doesn't bother me

My execution is bad i agree with that but i didn't push so much in this game. In order to finish the stages quickly, you have to know perfectly the pop of the mob of each stage and perfectly use the jump kick. It's just my feeling because i was tried this technic during my training sessions. Maybe i'm wrong and there are technics which are better than the jump kick.

If i have some time, i would try a 1cc with the jump kick but currently i'm very busy so perhaps in the future. I speedrun just for pleasure but i like to optimize the gameplay (i know not in this case but i have only 52 tries on this speedrun). If you change the rules, the next time i will try to speedrun this game, I'll bend to it and if I arrive, I'll make a 1cc run and if you make a 1cc section, people will have the choice to speedrun it with several credits or with 1 credit.

sincerely, i created this section but i do not want to become a dictator. I think it would make more sense to add a 1cc, i wonder if other arcade games have the same type of categories.

Inoticed too there was a switch version. Not sure how it is different from the rom version, but for sure it could be more fair to have a category on that platform. Running on Mame is always subject to doubt in cheating (i had cheating issues with other games categories with mame cheating, just a shame).

I also wonder if recording live (or proof of live recording) can be requested (video showing an input display for example)

For the 1cc, you can add the rule and create categories : 1cc and any% Clear, for example Violent Storm have this sort of category, you can also add the 2 players speedrun and the same categories for the switch version.

An another idea is to define the beginning and the end of the speedrun in the rules because sometimes the players aren't synchronized (the timer begins when I push the button start or when I take control of the character for example. Same idea for the end, you stop the timer when the last boss die or at a particular moment int the animation of ending, I use to watch the other speedrun to define the beginning and end when nothing is specified in the rules).

For the recording live, why not, I use to show my input with the soft XinputView, it won't change anything for me. It can be restrictive but it involves the players to be fair.
