The only difference is faster loads depending on what version you have. However, in most categories we use in game time provided by the file you use in your runs, which means in any different console or emulator nothing changes.

Load differences only affect categories timed using real time, like super hard mode.

There are more significant differences in other console versions (PS2, xbox), but GC version on Wii is the exact same except for what I mentioned.

So I was doing some science on dolphin looking for visual cues attempting to make more doable a specific bop boost in Frog Forest for Team Dark and for it I decided to use the Dolphin Memory Engine, that for those unfamiliar, is a complementary application similar to Cheat Engine that using a specific file for the Sonic Heroes ISO allows you to display some very useful info such as speed, position, etc in the current gameplay.

Allowing usage of emulator for the leaderboards is a very good initiative in my opinion considering how hard is to get the original hardware nowadays (and how harder it will become eventually) and it's being taken carefully giving priority to guarantee fair and legit competition. Previous posts have been explaining what countermeasures we could take in order to prevent any way of cheating, so now when using this tool for labbing I noticed there could be a hole that would need to be patched.

Basically the info in the top of the dolphin emulator window indeed is useful to see if a TAS is being played or a state is being saved or loaded, but it does not say if there is an auxiliar window with DME open, which could allow the player to check some data that could influence the gameplay, for example, looking at position values while falling in a long and complicated bop boost like the one I'm testing now.

This screenshot as example shows how both windows are looking on my PC (hopefully it is visible?) https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/287951682116255744/777427417588563998/unknown.png

I would suggest thinking about a solution to prevent this or any other inconvenient that could show up

Count on me for whatever test you need, I'd be glad to help. At least I can say I've been testing and exchanging a lot of strats with Deku the last month and atm nothing different except our hands. About info related with the IGT I really don't know. About other issues like lag spikes, I can tell my PC is very far from a really good one and it works smoothly, I sometimes get a lag spike but it's very rare.

First huge travel for me, I was super happy the whole event so I don't have much other events to compare. I gave a read to what other people said and I mostly agree with them in general so I'll try instead to give my point of view about different things.

About the location: For first time travelers being easy and fast to move from Copenhagen to Hyllie is amazing, same for the way back. Being a little clumsy about orientation I just had to ask like 3 people to make sure I was taking the right train and didn't have any big complication. In my case I had to stay in the overflow hotel, but Hyllie overall is a nice place where you can quickly move between hotels without any major worry. This is possibly the best place ever for this event, even if is very unlikely for me to attend the next ESA Winter I was very happy to hear that is going to be in the same place.

Once inside in the venue, there were a lot of really smooth details besides the ice cream machine, coffee, pop corn and water. The location for the arcade was very good, I would love to see more variety in the arcade some next time. The distribution of the areas was overall good but here I agree a little about what most of people said regarding noises interfering in both streams coming from the other or from people in the middle.

Actually I had a similar situation happening in the streaming station so that's why about the rest of the venue I'm going to start talking about that. Metako did an amazing job, the PCs for the streaming station were great and the organization overall very good, but the fact that both streaming stations were so close to each other is probably something to consider in the future. I didn't get interrupted, I was actually the noisy one in my turn and I just got lucky that the other streamer was super chill but that definitely could be a trouble at some point.

Then about the other rooms I mostly agree about the lack of PCs or in this case I would say more like the overpopulation of people needing PCs. I did notice how hard was finding a PC for practicing, but my run was on day 1! in other words, if I wanted a PC any other day from sunday was just to mess around and not for actual practice for the event and I'm pretty sure I was not the only one. To be fair, the title of the room was "PC Room" and not "Practice Room", so whoever reading that letter would assume every PC is for free usage. For this case I think is a combination between probably needing more PCs and needing more organization to check and give priority to people needing a place to practice.

Speedgaming having a spot was great, and having feasel there was a big honor. Definitely we want that in more events!

Back to the stream room: Big shoutouts to the tech guys doing insanely good setups, also not sure if anyone mentioned but the machine scanning our speedrun.com data from our badge? dude, that's smooth. I'm not sure if anyone had technical issues in the stage but for me that was one of the best things in the event.

There were other rooms in the venue I honestly don't know what they were, like the one called Mafia. The main hall actually was a nice place to stick around having a lot of practice setups and tables, infodesk always being there and having a lot of comfy places to sit if feeling tired.

I don't know what else to say for feedback, then I had my own travel experience but probably not interesting at all, just I can TL;DR it saying that was amazing and I would love to come back if I don't have to sell a lunge for it. Greetings from Argentina, loved being part of your event!

also wait, why we should wait for the tournament for changing the Any% ruleset? at this rate a plot twist like someone having guts for taking the 5b route in the tournament would be a fucking nice show (and a nice self-sabotage for the one who decides to take such a decision).

I think is ok having to beat Core-A in order to complete the category, in the end that is a category goal based and specific of the game and in that territory is fine. But indeed beating 6b instead of 6a could be an actual option if anyone wants to give a try and would not affect the berries count.

Proposing a change of wording the rules for Any%. In the current ruleset it puts "complete All A-sides" and I'm sure that is just because the possibility of using a B-side route was not considered. It would be simple as editing to something like beat the game or unlock the credits from a fresh file replacing that line and that's all.

Something generic like that would work in the current version allowing B-sides and banning them if something changes with the game.

We can talk for hours about the viability of those routes, being 100% honest I don't think anything will change for real, that just would be correct according to the concept of Any% regardless of whatever opinion anyone can share.

I don't think Any% has to be splitted, the only potential route that could be faster is Mirror Temple and the risk is huge for a very little reward.

City B is longer than City A, also the tape is late in the level. Old Site B about the same time but taking the tape would make that considerably slower. In Resort the tape is very late in the level. Ridge B is longer than Ridge A. Reflection B instead of Reflection A would be actually very similar but slower, also just if you are fast for taking the tape. Summit has the tape in 1500m so it would definitely be slower.

The only case that would be faster is Mirror Temple, if you use the key skip which is terryfing.

Any% is a category that has only one meaning, no need to split that. Comparing people going for a B-side route instead of the traditional way is completely fair, because all are having the same goal, there is no point on splitting a category because some people use different strategies.

I would expect always people disagreeing with big changes like this to a category, that happens every time in every speedgame. Of course notifying devs about the issue because we 2018 and games are patched would be a first step just because no one wants to start doing runs with this system and they becoming obsolete because a new version makes impossible to speedrun like this, right?

Just saying, but I heard some stuff about a change like this being "arbitrary", speedrunning is arbitrary by definition, is a custom activity where you do what you want and no one stops you from getting fun the way you want with your game with the goal of going fast. From a purist speedrunner standpoint you should even be able to beat Any% using B-sides if you want and that should be allowed because a category in a game has 2 things, a goal and a way to reach the goal: Any% means "beat the game in ANY possible way".

This last clarification especially comes because the ruleset of Any% in speedrun.com says "beat all A-sides", not going against mods with this, I'm pretty much sure they didn't know that is actually possible reaching the goal of Any% beating B-sides in the middle. In any case, that would be the arbitrary thing for the boards, because if you can beat the game in the fastest possible way using a B-side instead of completing some A-side, why banning it?

Pointing this out because doing some maths, I think with a very high risk and little reward there is indeed a B-side route in Any% that would potentially save time, probably a thing no one would use but I don't think should be banned if someone comes with it, and is not an opinion or arbitrary proposal, I'm sticking 100% to what Any% means.

Hello, I'm moderator in Freedom Planet https://www.speedrun.com/Freedom_Planet and my request is for removing johannhowitzer as moderator. There is no drama about that, we made some changes in moderation and we are leaving only active people, he is inactive and I can't contact him (I tried the last month), that's why I'm asking here.

If you can submit both videos and is 100% verifiable the fact you got the run in a single segment, you can submit them as part 1 and part 2. The important thing about a run being single segment is to not QUIT and start again from the full game file.

If for example you are in Thermal Base at 2:34 and your internet dies, you pause, you reconnect and you start recording again from 2:41 in a coherent position (assuming you took 7 seconds to realize and pause), then you can submit your run in part 1 and part 2, I don't see a reason for that run to being rejected.

In cases like that probably we would take consideration about things around the submission, I can't guarantee 100% every run submitted this way will be accepted because if for example you are a "suspicious" runner (someone caught trying to break rules or cheat for submissions, for example) probably moderators will have a talk about accepting or not the run.

The condition is the run being one segment, not necessarily the video, still we always prefer the run in a single video just because makes the verification work easier.
