It's been at least 3 years now that this board has existed on SRC. When I first made it, there were very very very few runners of this game, actually, I knew them all personally, so I didn't bother to actually put common gameboy stipulations in the rules section. I figured that since I knew everyone running the game, and knew they both knew and understood the rules, so repeating them here would be redundant. Furthermore, we had no idea that SRC would take off in popularity like it has now.
That being said, I have some bad news for possibly some of the existing times on the board as well as submissions going forward. Active today, all runs done on emulators that SRL does not allow for racing will be removed from the leaderboard. This DOES NOT MEAN we are banning you from running the game. In fact, we encourage players to redo and beat their time on an acceptable emulator (now knowing that Gambatte is by far the best option, I recommend it over the others, and Bizhawk uses Gambatte as its core if you prefer that one).
As it stands, my latest PB was done on WiiMednafen and I'm actually unsure myself if it is accurate enough to not provide a distinct advantage over using Gameboy Player or Super Gameboy 2. If anyone feels motivated enough to test it and finds out it is unfair, I will be forced to redo my run as well! So don't feel singled out if you happen to be one with your time removed haha.
This game's popularity exploded with events like the 12 Hour Challenge, and until today's latest submission it really wasn't brought to my attention or truly cared about enough.
I'd like to apologize for not taking this leaderboard too seriously to start, Mugg has done a fantastic job working hard and doing the majority of the verification work on his own but speedrunning as a whole is an entirely different animal than it was 3+ years ago when I ventured down the rabbit hole that is Trip World. It's also been hard to continue to care about being 2nd place (or lower, gg Rodrigo!) when Nacho is sooooo far ahead of the rest of us.
Anyway, please voice any concerns! If anything I do not want to make it seem like I am picking on specific people to be a bully and would like this process to be as transparent as it possibly can be for 2 volunteers to tidy up a leaderboard for their hobby, and thanks for understanding if you do!
there is not a discord, all we have is #tripteam on the SRL irc server, which is mostly a ghost town that only Nacho and I idle in, but pinging us there will get our attention if you have any questions :>
Actually, by far the most common emulator used is VisualBoyAdvance, which as I stated earlier has really bad inaccuracies. Sticky post coming about changes to the leaderboard and stricter enforcements of which emulators you cannot use will be the topic, along with a link to a video comparison Blechy made showing the differences between known/accessible gameboy emulators.
you have a couple to choose from, we havent really had that many people play the game to really delve into which gameboy emulators you can't use... the only one that's not preferred throughout gameboy speedrunning is VBA, it's like the zsnes of gameboy.
most of the runs you see on the leaderboard here are on gambatte or bgb if they aren't played on supergameboy2/snes or gameboyplayer/gamecube or something, but i recently got a wii and my run is on wiimednafen. i recommend either that or gambatte

i definitely agree with what mugg has to say, i'm not opposed to other categories than any%/beat the game (it's one in the same category), i've even done a run that i called "Low% No Copter", it would have been no transformations at all but i can't figure out a way to get through world 3 without using either copter or fish... so i decided copter was overall the more powerful of the two and restricted that. however, the run is really rather boring and the only difference is you actually have to fight the world 4 boss without any powerup transformations.
anyway, if you have any questions about how to run the game both nacho and i idle in #tripteam on the srl irc and there are some resources linked there that i'm unsure were ever added on this site (we're lazy sorry haha)
good luck with the game! there's definitely a lot of tricky stuff ahead but it's not painstaking to grind and quite rewarding when it all comes together :>
Ok after reviewing the leaderboards, i noticed that Acmlm was moved to "Any%" even though he did not use an Exploration Glitch, he merely used an out of bounds clip....
Everyone's runs currently that do not skip the 20 minute wait could be called "Any% No Major Glitches" if they don't want to be obsoleted by runs that clip through the mountain to get the Gannon. Otherwise, they could just be all combined and require the clip for "main category".
I only suggest this because that's basically how ALttP is organized, since this is essentially an official romhack of ALttP itself. I did look for more overworld + dungeon clips to include in a Any% No EG route but failed to find any. Furthermore, if you accept the waiting time, then it pretty much means no matter how much time you save on Tablets 7+8 doesn't matter, it just means you'll be waiting for longer to get to Gannon.
Hopefully this makes more sense than my previous posts, I tend to be really crap at explaining stuff. :>

haha i have the same problem, hence the late reply on my part as well
all dungeons no eg is not quite the same as the current any% namely because it uses 1 frame clips to access ganons tower without waiting... im not sure if this is already used?
and yeah about week 4 thing
i dont think anyone that runs this game even knows what 100% fully entails, especially regarding this deluxe combo thing... perhaps contact ben directly via twitch or twitter? sorry i cant be of more help :<
that said im not opppsed to a 100% category as long as all the details are fully fleshed out
speed is totally up to you, though hi speed setting has far more disadvantages and virtually no advantages especially in the nes version, glglgl

Yo, got some old vids of when a few of the ALttP boys ran this...
One of the categories was "8 Tablets" which ended at Trinexx, with current knowledge of OoB in the game it is no longer necessary to wait for Zelda so "8 Tablets" is garbage, but here it is from 2014 in 31:21:
I propose there be "All Dungeons No EG" (The current Any% No EG) and Week 4 Any% No EG as categories, since players could have purchased the game on week 4 and been able to gather the equips you would normally collect in Weeks 1-3 from an NPC outside the dungeon. That may sound like a lot of fluting around just to collect equips, but with newer OoB techniques, there may be a fair amount of travel time cut down. Also in 2014 I was able to do 13:22:
I also did run "All Dungeons No EG" or "All Weeks No EG" or "Any% No EG" or whatever you wanna call it (FRICKIN ALTTP) but I can't find the video. Regardless, you just use vanilla ALttP's Turtle Rock Clip to get over to Ganon's Tower in this game and entirely skip waiting for Zelda.
Only the clam zip in World 3 is doable in terms of glitches... the world 3 fish zip and the world 4 goku zip was apparently difficult to achieve under TAS conditions, nevermind RTA.
I wasn't able to replicate either when the TAS was being made, but was able to replicate TAS Clam Zip a couple times in the first 10 or 15 minutes of trying.

But I will make my argument against having it:
We do 0-20 (or sometimes 0-21) because those are all the levels you can select after gaming over, since the game goes all the way to 99 or whatever it is.. some unreasonably high number. So, at least to me, 0-20 is the "Full Game Run" and 0-10 is just a partial and I don't really see the point in tracking a leaderboard for a partial game run...
