Not only did I get sub 18 but Ustra did as well. I'm hoping I can get this into the next GDQ event to show off the new optimized route we worked so hard for. I should have submitted it this time around, but there's always next time :D

After doing some testing while running this game again for the past two months unfortunately this is another one of those Genesis games that should be separated due to time differences for emulator and console. It really comes down to the game imo and the amount of lag and load time it suffers at this point, The game has become pretty optimized so any time loss on console will ruin a potential PB. SandbagX says overall there's about a 5-6 second difference between console and emu for Easy so I can only imagine more for Normal and Hard because the enemies don't die in one hit which means more on screen = more lag. I'll post the demo comparison video for you all to see below to give you a general idea of what I'm talking about. Also I don't mind modding. I can do some clean up work. Update the rules a bit more. It's also a good look when another runner approves your runs rather than having to do it yourself. To be honest, I'm really surprised that Moonwalker (Genesis) isn't a separate leaderboard since these are all completely different games rather than just ports that are almost identical. I have no experience with the other games since I only played them for fun casually so I'd only help with the Genesis department for now. Anyways here's the comparison video :)

With the new route there's no need to go to the room that supplies you with the locker code on the computer which saves a bunch of time. The code is RNG and after testing it with another runner and watching YouTube playthroughs we came up with 8 codes so far but I think there's 10 total. I'll go ahead and post them below for any future runners interested.

So I recently got back into Flashback speedruns and improved a lot since last year. I noticed throughout practice that genesis emulator runs faster than console. Well, That's the case for most genesis games but some make a pretty big difference and this happens to be one of them. Emulator does a way better job running through any lag spots in the game. Sometimes with very little to no lag at all. I went ahead and did a comparison video of the very first level. Same strats and everything. You can tell there's a minor slowdown while loading each new area of the level but it's very noticeable at 28 seconds in. This is just one example. VIP mission in level 2 there's a pretty bad lag spot on hardware and I can't imagine how it runs for Death Tower since that level is a lagfest naturally. Any place there's enemies emulator will do a better job handling any lag that comes with it. Anyways, I'm going to separate them because I'm all about a fair leaderboard.

After modding this game for almost two years and keeping a close eye on activity. I feel it's best to either drop 100% or move it. Aiming more towards Any% for all runners. The big issue is that there's so many ports for this game but not enough runners to have two categories like this. Tho it's more organized these days it's still all over the place. Trust me when I say this effects me a lot as well since I've ran 100% for most of the ports. I do feel this is for the best tho. At this point I sometimes get submissions of the same runs for both 100% and Any% just because it's essentially the same run if you don't want to bother with the skips. Any% works for all runners no matter how you play it. If you want a better time It'll only push you to progress and learn the skips and be the best you can be. I'm not even sure where 100% even spawned from but there's really no need for it. It just spreads out the leaderboards and divides out everything to where it's all over the place when in reality It's basically the same run minus the skips "which you don't have to do in Any% if you don't want too" and a window cutscene lol. I'm working on getting Autosplits set up for the 15th anniversary edition as well and hoping to move that to "Default" since it's the fastest port out there and not to mention it runs soooo much better than the Steam version. Let me know what you guys think about all of this.

I think it's great that console and emulator are separated. Good work 🙂 I do feel that proof of driver on the Playstation 2 is a must because RE1 and RE2 has had it's issues in the past. Something similar to this so nobody is trying to snake the system.

Showing Playstation 2 Driver after a run is completed is mandatory from "This date on" (This rule only applies for Top 3) or every runner honestly. Whatever you like as long as it's shown in the run.

Hey there, I'd like to help moderate this game. I noticed theres a few issues. While some runners use real time they should using the end game time that is given to you in seconds at the credits. Just a simple minute conversion does the trick as well as rules etc. This leaderboard could use some cleanup work as well. I've noticed one of this SNES times doesnt have a working video anymore. Im a series mod for Jurassic Park and mod for many other games and since this will be on my next AGDQ submission it'll be good to have a nice cleaned up leaderboard :)

On the 20th Anniversary Edition of this game you have 3 different difficulties to choose from. Easy, Normal and Hard. I've seen some great runs on the leaderboards and wondered why some didn't have better times. Then it occurred to me today when testing every difficulty. Easy and Normal mode run slower than Hard. A good example is when Lester is swinging the cage after he is captured to break loose. After timing all 3 difficulties. Easy = 44 seconds, Normal = 42 Seconds, Hard = 38. I started the timer at the beginning of the cutscene with Lester and Buddy in the cage and stopped it after Buddy points and talks. This was timed on PS4 so with PC differences it may be slightly faster but will have a similar gap between difficulty time. For Any% runners the only thing I noticed that was tough on hard was the wall glitch at the beginning when Lester doesn't have his gun due to the Aliens laser gun fire being way more accurate but just by the difference in speed alone you can easily get that time back doing the standard strat. You can still perform the strat either way on hard but it may take some time or a new strat to confuse the Enemy AI a bit to buy you enough time to glitch through the wall without getting shot. Also for me personally the Slugs at the beginning are much easier to dodge on hard. So try it out for yourselves guys and enjoy the golds you'll be getting in future runs. :)

After hard work and dedication they finally accepted my run which I'm super excited about. I mainly want to talk about the 15th anniversary edition. Mine came in the mail today and it's a bit different than the 20th port. There's a speed boost option you can turn on and off so obviously that's a no no when it comes to this port when enabling it because Lester runs unbelievably fast. Also I've noticed TimmyAkmed's run he glitches through a wall after escaping with buddy. It seems fine until he exits to the games main menu and presses continue to hit the next check point. He does that because it seems he can only glitch through the wall by doing a crouch animation that requires him not to use his gun. So basically from what I've seen he doesn't pick up his gun, glitches through the wall quits to the games main menu and continues during the next checkpoint so he's able to have his gun on him that he never picked up to begin with. If Timmy wants to explain this from his point of view I'd like to hear his side. From what I see right now he's using a unlocked checkpoint that already starts with the gun he never picked up.

I get the whole 100% thing but is there really any point of looking out the window? I know we see all other cutscenes but technically we skip the whole laboratory scene because our timer starts as soon as the desk appears in the water and Lester is active for us to control. I've always felt there should be a Any% and a Any% Glitchless category instead. Meaning no zips, skips, glitches etc. I guess I look out that window and question it everytime lol.

I've finally decided to make a Jurassic Park Speedrun Community Discord. It's for all runners in the series. Once you join you'll see that every game that's listed on here will be in the discord as well as a Visitor Center to chill at for general talk. I'm hoping some of these games make it into a GDQ event soon. I know I'll be submitting a handful so I'll continue to grind and work on my runs as well. Hope to see you guys in here! https://discord.gg/gYKz9aa

Hey guys. It's been on my mind lately seeing most Retro Games including JP have most of their timers start on the "START" screen on the main menu. I'm thinking it may be best to do it for this game and Rampage Edition as well. I believe it would only add an additional 3 seconds to the run if we all agree on it which I'll do since I'm a moderator now. Let me know your guys' thoughts. :)

Hey guys. It's been on my mind lately seeing most Retro Games including JP have most of their timers start on the "START" screen on the main menu. I'm thinking it may be best to do it for JP1 and Rampage Edition as well. If you think about it, starting on the map screen seems a bit off because you are active to move the controls and pick whatever map you'd like depending on your route which sometimes happens during the run itself when the timer is on. For events like GDQ, which I'm trying hard to get these games in at the next event, it seems a bit smoother to have the timer start at menu like most games. Let me know your guys' thoughts. :)
