I have a very old copy of Quake II and recently decided to try my hand at speed running. I watched a few of the top runs and got ready to play.

Unfortunately, for some reason my character's run speed is about half of what all the speedrunners are. I don't mean they bunny hop or anything, just regular old running is way faster than it is in my game. And I do mean run-speed, not walk-speed.

I thought maybe it was Q2pro or something, so I dragged and dropped that into my gamefolder and as far as I can tell it's set up the way it's supposed to be.

But the speedrunners still run a lot faster and it seems like they get more hang time from double jumps than I do, though I may be imagining the jump thing. I feel like I'm missing something super obvious, but I couldn't find any information. Deadbeat also doesn't mention it in his guide.

Any input would be appreciated.

This could be an optical illusion caused by different FOV since a lot of Quake players use values above 100, creating a "fisheye" effect, therefore it seems like they are moving faster.

That, in fact, appears to be what it was. I appreciate your prompt reply, I was worried because the forum didn't seem very active.

Most speedrunners lurk on discord servers.
