100% route and guide

This guide assumes that you have read the Any% guide. It has most of the tips for individual levels, this guide will only have tips for a 100% playthrough.

You start by doing a normal Any% playthrough but because the mysterious treasures are randomized you want to try and get as many as you can in the first playthrough. You also want to get as much HQ as
possible and do every Bonelich. You need to get a certain amount of HQ to get Legendary Pirate Champion but you don't necesarrily need to get Unpuzzleable on every level. Remember to pick up items like the worm straw and the bullets in Final Battle. Throughout the run you also want to get money where convinient for Maddy. You only need a few thousand total so don't worry about it too much or go too much out of the way like destroying pots and rocks. Once you unlock Maddy (the earlier the better) you want to send him in between every level (even once you get the Hi-Speed Ship). You do not need to get the rarity radar and treasure radar so you should avoid those spots on the map when sending out Maddy.

Some of the best spots for money is: In flute to the left of the coconut trees in the first playthrough, the big rock in Flute, Johnny and the lever in Crystal Key, the base of the hammer Anciet Wyrm, the controls and rose poster in Operation: Take Back!, while waiting for cycles next to the key pot in Bell Tower of Requiem in the second playthrough, skeleton in Mad Science (time loss), back mast The Great Chase (time loss), breaking gems while waiting for cycles in Barbaros' land, and to the far left in Final Battle. Whenever money appears just go ahead and collect it, especially if it is a gold coin. You should also get lots of money from failed mysterious treasures. Don't be afraid to buy some platinum tickets, this run is long and brutal so some safety measures are likely to save time if you find yourself dying every once in awhile, but keep in mind that using tickets makes you lose Hq so don't revive on a max Hq run on a level, although if it is your first playthrough in many levels you can do that the second time.

In the second run you need to get all of the secret treasures. It doesn't matter what treasures you get first but you want to get all of the items that make maddy cheaper and find more treasure first.
You should get the special maddy items in this order:
Treasure Jewel ......................... From Bonelich in Flute of the Growlin' Goblins
Discount card .......................... Frome Bonelich in The Fountain Guardian
Rare Jewel ................................. From Keeper of the Ice for carrying the goon across the level
Discount card ++ ................... From Mirror, Mirror for creating your own 6 part sound puzzle
Discount card + ...................... From Relics of the Past for doing a perfect Tile Puzzle
Hi-Speed Ship ......................... From King of the Jungle for Itemizing King Growl

After you finish the first run do Keeper of the Ice and getting all of those chests for the rare jewel.
Then Got to Mirror Mirror and Do all of those chests for the Discount card ++.
Then do all of the Relics of the Past chests for the Discount card +. If you forgot to get the first wiki upgrade you need to do that first.
After that do the fast King of the Jungle to get the Hi-Speed ship so Maddy respawns faster.
Finally you can do the rest of the levels in any order.
After you get all of the Secret Treasures just send out Maddy to get the remaining items until you get Legendary Pirate Champion; THIS WILL TAKE AWHILE.

Then go to the Yellow Square until you get every item or you are running low on money. Go to the Blue square if you know you are only missing a few high ranked items or you are really poor. You also need to get every x on the map except for the ones with the treasure tracker and rarity radar (green Xs on the map)

# Levels

Keeper of the Ice: THIS LEVEL HASN'T BEEN OPTIMIZED
Don't worry about getting Max HQ on this level the first playthrough because you need to shake trees the second time. When going for max HQ remember to get Johnny before you kill Jeeves.
Do the Level Normally at first. After you carry the goon totem to the southeast area and shovel the snow pick up the goon and head to the place where you started to the west. Along the way shake every tree. After you get the chest for carrying that goon shake the rest of the trees on your way to the chest under the waterfall in the top right corner, then kill Jeeves and complete the level.

Mirror, Mirror:
The first treasure is for picking up the phone before you are called for 10 seconds; Do this right before Johnny's tutorial. The next treasure is for picking up the phone as fast as possible. I think you can do this in any of the 3 times you pick up the phone but if you are worried about it you might want to reset until you get it on the first try. The last treasure is at the very end after you defeat the doppelganger.

Relics of the Past:
This level is very similar to a normal run. Just remember to go up and down each lava platform an extra time, do the block puzzle perfect and after you defeat the Orion Walkers and exorcise the ghost go back and click on the door they came out of.

Pit of Trajedy:
Bring the totem head up and do that one right away, then break every pot and rock. Then just play the level normally.

Flute of the Growlin' Goblins:
After you get the coconut go back and forth on the Gondola 3 times, then play the level normally; grab that secret treasure after completing the level to avoid waiting for cycles. After you make the Goblins fall and then itemize them and put them in the soup, then grab the flute and play the song backwards before finishing the level.

Three Colossi:
Play the level normally except right after you crank for the totem head crank that hand right back up

The Fountain Guardian:
When getting max Hq after killing the fish drop an additional bomb down the slide to kill the Goblin, then itemize the goblin and put a worm on the hook for even more Hq. It's probably worth it to reset until the worm is in either of the 2 rocks to the right of where you start. Do the level the fast way but go down the slide to get to the frog. Then before you kill the fish drop 5 worms into the water. Later in the level before you plug the water again climb up the vine and go down the slide, then climb back up and jump in the pit. Then finish the level normally.

King of the Jungle:
This one requires 2 runs. In the first one kill King Growl the fast way and get the first 2 chests, then kill him the slow way and flip the batbrella while you are falling multiple times. Other than that play the level normally.

The Crystal Key:
This one is pretty simple, just play the level normally and whenever it is convenient do the two keyholes on the left. The top one with an ice bar and the bottom one with a key that is Sky blue, Green, Dark Blue from top to bottom. Do the plain rod hole after finishing the level because there will be an extra rod from melting the key. If you zoom out you can see Johnny at the top of the ice spike in the middle, click him repeatedly to get some coins and some HQ.

Icicle of Prosperity:
For this level you want to get max Hq when making the Icicle fall on the chest so in that run talk to johnny by clicking on the empty hole. This one also requires two runs, one where you play the level normally except you save the 39-59 damage for punching it and one where you do it by making the chandelier fall down. In either run you need to use the batbrella to press the button behind the crank wheel with the centipede.

Frost Breath:
During any of the phases stand in front of each mirror stand for awhile. Otherwise play the level normally except after you get Wiki ring the bell near the thing that shoots the laser.

Bridge of Doom:
Play the level normally except ring Wiki in the area surrounded by rocks on the bottom level.

Lake of Fire:
Play the level normally except after you dump the water take the totem from the bottom of the steps down to the totem hole underneath the black rock to the right of the chest. find Johnny for some extra Hq

Dragon Scales:
For getting max Hq on this level it is ESSENTIAL that you get both tennis's first try. Play the level normally except after you do the lever in the dragon body go back and forth in the body until the chest appears the chest trigger is halfway through the lower body but you don't need to walk that far every time, just on the last one. AFTER you hit the treasure chest with the racket hit another ball to the right where you can see Johnny balancing.

Ancient Wyrm:
For this level you just need to remember to eat some fire when most convinent (you don't need to eat every one but you want to do them early rather than later) and to do the water on the bottom level before placing the goon on the second hammer button and do the final button before the final water.

Operation: Take Back:
Play the level normally except before you put a frog bomb onto the fan chase the frog to the right 3 times. Turn the engine off right after the goon turns it back on the first time and right before you steal the map (the goon teleports to the Barracks when you pull the lever).

Bell tower of Requiem:
Play the level normally except ring the bell two extra times and switch the gear machine back to the left.

The Painted Secret:
Play the level normally except right after making the chest piece in the tree fall down poke the man in the eyes, nose, and toupe. At the end of the level before putting all of the chest pieces in the floor put them on the pedestals where the ghost pirate paintings used to sit

Mad Science:
Play the level normally except when you get the centi-saw saw down the tree as fast as you can. Also before you put the bat-brella into the science machine take it to the shower, open it, and pull the lever.

Return of the Legend:
Play the level normally except when you are falling before you grab the bat-brella click on 6 pots. Whichever run you are going for maximum HQ don't try to pull the lever before the ghosts appear because it will penalize your HQ.

The Great Chase:
This is another level that requires two playthroughs, because of the heavy RNG this level's time can vary wildly. In the first playthrough play through the level normally. If you need more HQ you can fish and drop a tuna bomb in the chute. The second time wait for Hexaleg to reach the ship when you would normally shoot her tentacles, during this time you can fish to get some more tuna and transform them. The goons can put them in the chute for you but you need to do the last one.

Barbaros' land:
When trying for max Hq on this level do your best in the sword fights and try to let the goons see you while disguising with the metal pots. Play the level normally except sneak past the goon near the prison so you can drop the crown on him at the end, it needs to be pretty on the spot so take your time and don't rush it; if you mess it up you need to do the whole level again, I would use the right hole to drop it because you have a bigger window. You also need to make sure you do the gondola fast so that the crown falls down to the bottom level. You need to kill the goon patrolling in the top right on the thin part of the wall and kill the bottom goon with the large rock. For Hq let the goons see you while using the pot to hide before you kill them.

Final Battle:
You only need to play this level once so try not to get hit and catch everything for max Hq and reset if you don't get the mysterious treasure right away. To pick up the bullet don't transform one goon until he is moving a bullet.

Managing HirameQ And Maddy In 100%

**Introduction**
In order to achieve the rank of the Legendary Pirate King and complete a 100% run you must acquire 5,000,000 HQ. The game does contain an excess of HQ so getting max HQ in every level is not required to achieve this however, getting HQ in some levels can be significantly faster or easier than others. This guide aims to document all of the HQ available in each level and the most efficient ways of getting to 5,000,000 HQ, as well as a few alternate routes to recover if you are unable to get high amounts of HQ in difficult levels such as Dragon Scales or The Great Chase.

Below is a list of the majority of the HQ available (some HQ is omitted due to them not being remotely time efficient) in the game in each level as well as some realistic approximates for the amount of HQ you are likely to get when playing each level. Below the list will be some recommended routes to take as well.

Maximum HQ is obtained by playing through the level as you normally would in an any% run, whilst also interacting with Johnny.

Bad Tennis: approximately 285,100

Bad tennis assumes getting the minimum amount of HQ possible on the first section (100 HQ) and missing two shots on the second section, reducing the amount of HQ gained from 100,000 to 40,000. Depending on how good your tennis is even without getting perfect tennis your HQ is likely to be higher than this approximate.

Maximum HQ is obtained by playing through the level the as in an any% run, however, you must also cut down the tree using the the centisaw, which is also required to get one of the secret treasures.

*Return Of The Legend*

Standard HQ: 198,000

Bad Minecart: approximately 175,000

Standard HQ involves playing through the level as you usually would in an any% run, however, rather than constantly ringing the bell you must ring it conservatively to get maximum HQ on the minecart section. In order to get maximum HQ you must not do the fast moonlight trick to kill the floating curses quickly and must only pull the chain after the floating curses have been released in addition to getting maximum HQ in the minecart section. Bad minecart is an approximate HQ value assuming you constantly ring the bell throughout the minecart section, however, even if you do this you are likely to still get a slightly higher HQ total.

Maximum HQ: 1,160,000

No Johnny: 1,150,000

Bad Minecart: 1,125,000

No Johnny is obtained by collection all of the HQ available in each level with the exception of interacting with Johnny in Bell Tower Of Requiem and bad minecart is obtained by not interacting with Johnny and also constantly ringing the bell in the minecart section of Return Of The Legend.

**Eastern Seas**

*The Great Chase*

(1) Maximum HQ: 280,000

(2) Bad RNG: 275,000

(3) Bad Shooting: 250,000

Maximum HQ is obtained by playing through the level as you normally would in an any% run however, you must also use the fishing rod, place a tuna bomb in the bomb chute manually and not miss any shots. Bad RNG is obtained by following the maximum HQ procedure, however, when doing the first torpedo section Hexaleg attacks the ship before you can hit him. Bad shooting accounts for some HQ that may be lost by missing a few shots when trying to free the goons and is a low end estimate.

*Barbaros' Land*

(1) High HQ: 430,000

(2) No Pots: 420,000

Due to maximum HQ taking much longer to acquire on this level and being quite inefficient in a run it is not listed on this guide and instead I have listed a high HQ run, which collects as much HQ as possible within a reasonably efficient timeframe. The no pots run involves using the chalice and deactivating the eye before removing the flag pole, sword fighting the top patrol goon and crushing the other two with a treasure vase and the boulder, knocking the treasures on the gondola down to the bottom of the level and ensuring you get perfect swordfights, as well as doing all of the standard things required to complete the level. The high HQ run is identical to this however it also involves using the statue vase near the snake pot to disguise yourself to gain some extra HQ. The high HQ route can be more convenient to take depending on how the cycles end up after waiting for the wind to align when using the gold flakes.

*Barbaros' Land: Final Battle*

(1) Maximum HQ: 320,000

(2) Standard HQ: 300,000

Standard HQ is obtained by playing through the level as you normally would in an any% run, however, to get maximum HQ you must not take any hits. In order to do this, when loading the goons into the cannon bay make sure to use the bell to itemise the sharockets before they hit the ship in between loading the goons.

These are only some of the possible combinations including maximum and minimum HQ.

**Route**

During the any% segment of the run if you are able to get maximum HQ on Dragon Scales and hence maximum HQ for the Western Volcano you will only need to meet the standard HQ requirements for the world total for Jungle Ruins and Frozen temple. From there if you only hit the bad minecart threshold for HQ in Barbaros' Castle you will need to acquire 982,500 HQ from the Eastern Seas, however if you meet the requirements for the No Johnny world total in Barbaros' Castle you will only need to acquire 957,500 HQ from the Eastern Seas.

If you are unable to get maximum HQ on Dragon Scales and only meet the Bad Tennis world total requirements for the Western Volcano, then aim for the No Johnny world total requirements for Frozen Temple. In the Eastern Seas collect 430,000 HQ from Barbaros' Land and 300,000 HQ from Final Battle.

If you are only able to collect 250,000 HQ from The Great Chase, assuming you have achieved the standard HQ requirements for the Jungle Ruins and No Johnny requirements for Barbaros' Castle you will have 4,957,600 HQ. The remaining 42,400 HQ can be obtained by instead meeting the maximum HQ requirements for the Jungle ruins, yielding an additional 52,500 HQ. Because of this slight surplus you will not have to place the worm on the hook in The Fountain Guardian.

If you are able to collect 275,000 from The Great Chase, assuming you have achieved the standard HQ requirements for the Jungle Ruins and No Johnny requirements for Barbaros' Castle you will have 4,982,600 HQ. The remaining 17,400 HQ can be obtained by knocking out and itemising the goblin in The Fountain Guardian.

**Maddy Locations**

Below is a map showing the best places to send Maddy on expeditions. Initially send him to the red square and once you have the discount tickets send him to the yellow square. The two green crosses are the only treasure map locations you don't need to send him to.

   Pit of Tragedy:

At the bottom of the area is a Totem Head.  Take that and run around the pillar a few times.

Break every rock and pot in this area.

   Flute of the Growlin' Goblins:

Go back and forth across the gondola three times while the Goblins are active.

Once you put the Goblins to sleep, itemize them all and drop them all in the pot.

Play the flute backwards, starting from the bottom.

   The Fountain Guardian:

Drop a Worm from the diving platform to the fish five times.

Go to the diving platform and jump off.  Go to the water slide and slide all the way through.  Do this both when the water is filled, and when it's drained.

Do the "alternate" method of getting rid of the fish: set a Worm near the water slide so the Frog goes after it, then drop the Frog into the water from the diving platform.

   Three Colossi:

After you remove the totem with the left-hand colossus, run the crank again to put the totem's left hand facing upward, then roll the rock.

   King of the Jungle:

Instead of covering the snake totem with a pot by yourself, stand near it and ring the bell so that the big guy drops a pot on it for you.

Itemize King Growl.  To do this, go out the right side of the cave and ring to get his attention, but run back in before he sees you.  Go up and behind him, then ring repeatedly to change him.

Once you start falling with the umbrella, flip it a few times in your hand  before opening it.  I did it five times and it was enough.

||   6C. Snow Country   ||

   The Crystal Key:

You need to make a key with the parts in the following order going down: sky blue, green, dark blue.  This key will go into the left-hand keyhole on the west wall.

Take a regular Ice Bar and put it in the right-hand keyhole on the west wall.

   Keeper of the Ice:

Shake all five trees in the area while Jeeves is still active.

Once you freeze the water, a chest will appear in the northeast corner.

Once you make the Goon Totem, take it to the southwest platform, then run all the way to the southeast area without dropping it while Jeeves is still active.  While you can't drop it, you CAN stop to shake trees, so you don't have to do it in one run.

   Icicle of Prosperity:

After freeing the Centipede using the Moldrill, keep turning the gear to uncover a switch.  Go to the alcove to the northeast of the big ice block to release a Bat.  Turn it into a Batbrella and use it to poke the switch.
 
This one's kinda cool.  Basically, what you need to do is break the ice with a special attack.  Start by using the Moldrill on the big ice block, the use the Icicle and Boarammer, then use the Frog Bomb, then use the Centi-saw on both sides.  You should be pretty low at this point.  Use the Batbrella or the Boarammer to knock the ice's "health" to about 40 or 50, then start hitting it with your bare hands.  After about thirty or so hits, you'll do a "super multi punch" for 30 damage.  If the ice breaks down then, you'll get the chest.

Quite simply, drop the big icicle on the ice.  Use the Moldrill, then the Icicle and Boarammer, then the Frog Bomb, then the Centi-saw.

   Frost Breath:

Step on each of the eleven mirror plinths.  You don't need to carry anything with you, but you need to actually be on the plinth, not examining it by standing in front of it.

This "one" is the cannon.  Once you get Wiki back, ring the bell while standing on top of the cannon.

Break the bridge.  This will most likely be done in the process of completing the level.

In the bottom right corner is a line of stones denoting an empty space.  Ring the bell in there for a few seconds.

   Lake of Fire:

Once you cool the lake, go to the right of it to find a black stone.  Toss it to reveal a Totem stand.  Place a Goon Totem on it to reveal the chest.

   Relics of the Past:

In the lava flow panel on the left side of the area, you need to insert the three blocks so you get the right solution, and you don't have to move any of them an extra time.  Here's a solution that works quick enough: Put the darker red L in the upper right hole, pointing up and right.  Put the cross piece in the left hole, with the lighter portion pointing down.  Put the last piece in facing properly.  Everything SHOULD line up.

Ride every lava lift at least three times.  Going up and down each count as one.

Once you get rid of the treasure ghost at the end, readjust the T platforms so you can go back up (both facing left should do it).  Go to the garage and you should see Johnny in there.

   Dragon Scales:

Walk back and forth through the midpoint of the dragon bones several times.

During your second "tennis session" with the fireballs, you should see Johnny on one of the dragon bones high up.  Hit him with a slightly late and hard shot to knock him off.

   Ancient Wyrm:

Have Swellosaurus Jr. eat all the flames in the area.  You should get them all before any have a chance to come back, but you shouldn't be too pressed for time.

Use one of the water statues, then raise the hammer one pillar, then use another water statue, then raise another part of the hammer, and so on until you use the fourth water statue.

   Operation: Take Back:

Shut the engine off three times at any point during the mission.

The Frog in the vents hops away from you.  Chase it to the right (to the elevator shaft) three times.

   Bell Tower of Requiem:

Ring the bell with the chain three times.

Once you drop the bell, go to the gear switch, and flip it back to the left.

   The Painted Secret:

Instead of placing the golden slabs one after another in the center, arrange the three of them on the gallery to the right of the center.

Take the broom and poke the old guy with it in the hair, eyes, and nose.

   Mirror, Mirror:

As soon as you start, pick up the phone and hold it up for about ten seconds.

After you speak to Johnny, go to the phone and put your hand on it.  As soon as it rings, pick it up.

Use all six sounds on one side (as far as I know, any order is good, but it's best to keep it simple, like left to right), then go to the mirror side and use the sounds on that side in the same order.

   Mad Science:

Once you turn the Centipede into a Centi-saw, saw down the tree it was on.  You have to do this relatively quickly to get the treasure to appear.

Take the Batbrella to the basement shower and use it while the Batbrella is open.

   Return of the Legend:

Somewhat difficult.  After you beat the boss, you'll be falling down a shaft.  There are six pots that follow you during the fall.  Click on each of these pots (just once, you don't need to manipulate them or anything) before you grab the Batbrella and use it.  The chest will appear a bit further down the mineshaft past the rock.

   The Great Chase:

Load your bomb bay with a full load of five Tunabombs.  This is best done after you release three Goons, so they can help you carrying them.  Make sure you drop the last one in yourself, though.

Free Rose and all her crew by shooting them out of Hexalegs' arms with the gun before it gets too close.

On a different run than the last one, wait for Hexalegs to approach, then use Wiki to release each Goon and Rose after it slams them on the deck.

   Barbaros's Land:

This particular ugly one is the one patrolling the upper-right area.  Grab the Steel Sword and wait for it to march to the thin part of the bridge to your right.  Fight and defeat it on that part of the bridge.

The big rock on the right side needs to be dropped on the Hench Mummy that patrols the lower-right area.  It's easiest when it's walking down to the ground floor.

1. This is the toughest of the three, because you need to sneak past the Pirate Mummy patrolling the upper left area instead of dropping a Treasure Vase on it.  Twice, actually.  The treasure boat on the right side has a Crown in it.  After you defeat Barbaros, you need to go to the elevator with this Crown and ride up to where the eye pushes you off.  Drop the Crown on the Hench Mummy patrolling, then drop a Treasure Vase on him.

Using the Autosplitter

1. Go to resources and download the zip file https://www.speedrun.com/zack_and_wiki_quest_for_barbaros_treasure/resources

2. Extract to a convinient location where you can remember where it is

3. Run AutoSplit.exe and livesplit

4. In livesplit right click and select "edit layout" then add a "scriptable auto splitter".

Go to the scriptable auto splitter settings within "Layout Settings" and select the filepath of AutoSplit.exe, AutoSplit.exe won't appear while browsing files so you will need to manually type this in, the easiest way is to browse to the folder that AutoSplit.exe is in, copy that file destination, and add "/AutoSplit.exe" to the end of it in the layout settings.

5. In AutoSplit select the file path of the folder with the images (the folder is in the zip from the beginning and is named "AutoSplitPics")

6.  Select the capture region. The capute region needs to be pretty exact. The best way to line it up is to finish a level and stay at the "stage clear" screen. Start the autosplitter, skip the start_auto_splitter split and adjust the capture region until it splits. If this doesn't work then you might need to create your own images; to do this you need to press "take screenshot" when it is in a position where the entire "stage clear" is visible and remove the background of the image if it is a stage clear. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/787841595218722817/787847097537790012/unknown.png
Then name the image the exact same thing that I have it named and replace it. If you are having problems with the return of the legend or final battle split then do the same thing you just don't need to remove the background.

8. When you are ready to run the game make sure AutoSplit is open and press "Start Auto Splitter" It should automatically start the timer in LiveSplit and if everything is right then you shouldn't need to do anything for the whole run!
